Studio 2 in particular also helps with EPD 9 projects like Mario Kart & ARMS, but Studio S is (mostly) laser-focused on Sakurai projects.

Especially when the 3D action game listing asked for remastered backgrounds & those were racing game experience. Not hard to put the puzzle pieces together on that one.

It’s simple, Nintendo was being cheap. We don’t have to shift the blame anywhere else, they can be held accountable just like any other billion-dollar company.

It’s also why the Kid Icarus cast in Smash was either uncredited (Pit/Pittoo, Viridi in 3DS/Wii U) or recast (everyone else, even Viridi in Ultimate). Palutena’s Uprising VA (Ali Hillis) even confirmed that she didn’t return for Smash because Nintendo didn’t unionize the English voice production.

Sonic & Sora have well-known union actors voicing them, and SEGA & Disney (respectively) have conditions that require the official VAs be used (Disney calls it “First right to refusal”). Nintendo‘s way around it was reusing voice clips from said games & paying the actors the bare minimum residuals.

Square Enix requires that their actors be credited & record unique lines. By Nintendo not unionizing the English voice production of Smash, they refused both. So Cloud & Sephiroth not speaking English was 100% Nintendo’s fault.

It’s the same reason why Sonic & Sora reuse lines from Gens & DDD.

My point is more that you’d think those priorities would be reversed, especially with so many key characters impacted.
November 22, 2025 at 3:43 PM
True, but you’d think Sakurai of all people would want to retain all the VAs from past games. Even the Kid Icarus cast got replaced outside of Pit/Pittoo.

FE Heroes is apparently transitioning to a unionized production, so there’s that as well.
November 22, 2025 at 3:35 PM
Oh, union stuff…

- Clubhouse Games
- Bayonetta 3*
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3**

* = Likely a request from Platinum
** = VO bill footed by Marvel Games

There was talk of Age of Calamity being unionized, but nothing I could explicitly confirm.

Nintendo’s a billion company, they can afford it. They just cut corners where they deemed it as unnecessary.
November 22, 2025 at 3:28 PM
- Smash 3DS/Wii U
- Smash Ultimate
- FE Three Houses
- FE Engage
- FE Heroes (possibly prior to last year, up for debate)
- Tears of the Kingdom

Normally I’d agree, but Nintendo has mostly been going non-union after Code Name: STEAM (even MUA3 had Marvel Games foot the VO bill). Only recently have we slowly been seeing a trend back to union rates.

I'm patiently waiting for a Switch 2 version so I can play at work, but congrats on the success!

I love how you have Laura as having defeated the X-23 codename, she's just Wolverine now.
