If you absolutely need remote access to camera views in your home, get a Home Assistant instance, get compatible local-only cameras for it, and sign up for Nabu Casa for remote access. Everything stays local, cameras never talk to the internet, and you connect to your home server to see the footage.

I share in these concerns but feel that it is not only racist, but actively unhelpful to limit the discussion to only Chinese devices.

Just don't put Internet-connected cameras/mics in living spaces. Full stop. Don't care who makes them, don't care who owns the servers they talk to. Just don't.

Senators did not want to have to put votes yay or nay on record, so they waved it along to avoid having to participate in that particular litmus test.
November 19, 2025 at 4:22 PM
I feel like it's both. Many GOP congresscritters have wanted to be out from under Trump's thrall but they needed something unanimous.

House went unanimous (nearly) and Senate waved it on so they didn't have to openly vote.

They also know that the files will be so redacted they won't matter.

Yeah, that kind of offhand cruelty and suddenly brain goes "bzzzzt! I'm sure I heard that wrong." It's why I prefer to deal with a few acquaintances only over text - "how fucking stupid are you to have said such a useless thing to me?" when I answered a direct request for advice hurts less in text.

I can see the mutual admiration.

One is famous for his use of bone spurs that he'd rather people not talk about, the other is famous for his use of bone saws that he'd rather people not talk about.

My only quibble with this is that Trump 47 is MUCH worse than Trump 45. Trump 45 needed time to figure out how to dismantle the things keeping him in check.
Trump 47 started dismantling immediately via executive order since he had a prestacked SC and Project 2025 ready to go on day one.

They are styrofoam decorations from Home Depot that have been spray painted. They are not only worthless, they are probably put up with double-sided tape and will break apart when they are pulled off the walls.

I'm sure Trumpers will give top dollar, though, so a buck fifty each maybe?

These "Great Red Cities", is there one of them in the country with us right now?
November 8, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Is that in raw numbers or percent? ;)

The Trump voters who use SNAP that I am aware of are almost universally buying the Fox/OANN/MAGA lie that Democrats are responsible.

Usually "because libt*** want illegals to get better health care than 'murikans" or to "cater to the illegal votes" or some similar nonsense reasoning, of course.

The only big surprise takeaway for me was that the 2024 meal costs basically the same this year as it did in 2024. I honestly thought it would cost more.
November 6, 2025 at 5:34 PM
I looked up the ingredients list for the 2024 dinner and plugged them into a cart. Total = $53.23.

corporate.walmart.com/news/2024/10...

2025 version costs less because it has a lot less. Eliminating things like the crispy onions, sweet potato casserole, and pecan pie saves a good deal of $$$.

I tried to calculate it but my scientific calculator keeps reading "overflow", sorry. Maybe we should use a scale of 1 to 5?

Sending a huge careful side hug (with a raincheck for a real hug when the healing permits).
November 1, 2025 at 9:21 PM
People who listen to OANN and other alt-right media. I have several of them (friends of friends) in my Facebook feed who earnestly feel that Trump is doing a great job, and the country is more secure and the economy better than ever because their "news" sources tell them this.

you should be ashamed... about thinking of deleting that excellent post. Don't you dare! ;)
(in reality, you can do what you want, of course, but please consider not deleting that - it's good)

I just assumed it was similar to Hegseth's spiritual advisor.

"As far as spirits, tequila is on sale and allows you to get a pretty cheap drunk on right now"
October 3, 2025 at 5:25 PM
If Hunter Biden's former roommate's great aunt's pastor's wife's cousin's spiritual advisor had pleaded guilty to jaywalking you know Fox would have that shit on lock for months.
October 3, 2025 at 5:23 PM
It took Internet Explorer that long to render them so they could be listed for sale? ;)

The most likely eventual outcome is that one of RFK Jr or Dr. Oz's miracle cure treatments is going to be loudly announced as a treatment for and/or preventative against autism. It will be entirely useless, of course, but the important thing is that the Trump family will be in on the grift $$$$$$$.

100% where I am right now. It looks like they would be about US $30 for three 105g bags. If I hate them, I'm out $30. If I love them, what monster will be unleashed on my wallet?
I'll have to see if the Asian market in the nearest city an hour or so away might have them....

TIL that salted egg yolk chips exist and I am now fascinated by this concept. Guess it's time to see if they are available here.
