I just saw this DHS video. The soundtrack is someone singing “This Land Is Your Land”

Woody Guthrie is turning over in his grave.

Nah, it’s an easy call. Go with whichever one doesn’t put Arby’s in her pants.
I think I'm going to have to take some time to make up my mind about whom I rooting for here

OMG, did she really refer to Dem legislators saying that the detention facilities they were allowed to see were “sanitized facilities,” and then criticize them for complaining that “the facilities were too clean”?
The tone of this video is completely wild. It's filmed like a high school media class project. It looks like it too; the presentation and graphics are amateurish. And yet it's chilling, because she's a real government spokesperson dismissing reports of abuses in detention with finger quotes.

But if you don’t post a comment saying that you don’t have anything to say, and that you are therefore going to refrain from commenting, so as not to normalize posting comments that don’t say anything, how can your decision not to post serve as an example for others to follow?
normalize not posting when you don't really have anything to say

Pretty much sums up the whole situation
Sabotage.
Head of NASA Sean Duffy intends to destroy a satellite that collects key data on carbon dioxide and plant health, by causing it to burn up in the atmosphere. The U.S. Dept of Agriculture and private agriculture firms use the data to forecast crop yield, drought conditions and more.

Carrying on the tradition of Nick Johnson.
A government-sanctioned "truth arbiter" will soon arrive at CBS. Their role will be to ensure that journalists do not criticize this Administration or express views that conflict with its agenda.

This is a betrayal—not just of journalistic independence, but of the public trust. 🧵

DHS/ICE “confirmed” they never got it?

Don’t you mean they *claimed* they never got it?
NEW: On Fox, Stephen Miller was unequivocal: the Trump administration wants a *minimum* of 3,000 immigration arrests per day to carry out Trump’s mass deportation policy.

On Friday night, DHS/ICE confirmed they’d never received such an order. www.politico.com/news/2025/08...

Hey ICE, how about this: We’ll cut you a break for pissing on the school grounds if you stop shitting on the Constitution?

When I went to see an off-Broadway play about the Chicago 8 trial, Abbie Hoffman was in the seat behind me.

No, coups come from within.

The term for what Noem is talking about is “invasion and conquest.”
On 6/12, DHS Sec’y Kristi Noem said “We are staying here to liberate [LA] from the socialists and the burdensome leadership this governor and mayor have placed on this country and this city.” This use of military force to displace a democratically elected is the very definition of a coup.

I guess nobody told them that SCOTUS has held (in a dumb decision, but still...) that Antarctica is a foreign country.

TIL that if you’re arrested for a crime in Antarctica you are prosecuted in the District of Hawaii.

it will be interesting to see whether Roberts has a change of heart now that Steven Miller is trying to become his supervisor.
I think a lot about CJ Roberts writing this in 2024: "The dissents' positions in the end boil down to . . . fear mongering on the basis of extreme hypotheticals about a future where the President 'feels empowered to violate federal criminal law.'"

And I think there's a nonzero possibility that he had a draft pre-written that he was waiting for an opportunity to use.
This is indeed incredible. “Conservative judge” doesn’t quite cut it as a description of Wilkinson. He is one of the most deferential-to-government-power judges in the country. When he writes like Justice Sotomayor it’s signs-and-wonders level.
INCREDIBLE opinion by Wilkinson refusing to stay Judge Xinis's orders in the Abrego Garcia case, condemning DOJ's arguments as "shocking not only to judges, but to the intuitive sense of liberty that Americans far removed from courthouses still hold dear."

The passage Evan quotes highlights a serious issue inherent in what originalism seeks to do. The meanings of words can change over time, and while sometimes such a change is obvious to readers 250 years later, sometimes it isn't.

Just to be clear, I’m advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Just to be clear, I’m advocating for due process for Kilmer Abrego Garcia.

Trump: God forbid the U.S. should be ordered to interfere with El Salvador's sovereign, domestic power over the guy we abducted & delivered El Salvador and are paying El Salvador to imprison.

Also Trump: Greenland and Canada belong to the U.S.
