Call on BBC Breakfast just now for 'Beaver Freedom Day' in the UK. As a lover of those furry mammals amen! I'd love to see one in the wild one day.

So these two have been neglecting me all evening. But on balance I think I can forgive them since they're this damn adorable...

Watching #DoctorWho The Enemy of the World, in which Patrick Troughton plays a fake-tanned tech 'genius' and would-be world dictator. Can't wait to see how it pans out.

#TheExpanse- did Thomas Jane ask to have that terrible hairstyle? Everyone else looks kind of normal, and he's stuck with the worst mohican in history.

He's not a Nazi, because the actual Nazis had cool outfits and didn't look like dorks. He's a wannabe Nazi.

American friends, for the next four years you're going to have to keep a note of every act of resistance, small or great, effective or not. The man who refuses to stand, the priest who speaks truth to power. That's how you keep your heads above the water.

Really enjoyed A Complete Unknown. The cast all do a great job, and the decision to focus so much on the music is a smart one. My criticism is that plotwise it's very low stakes and the folk sticklers are a bit comically caricatured (were they really being so unreasonable..?)

There are around 10k private school kids in Edinburgh.

51 have moved to state schools in January.

As I've repeatedly said the effects of VAT on fees are going to be minimal.

Andrea Arnold's Bird - fantastic film, faultless cast, great soundtrack, superb cinematography. Kitchen sink meets magical realism and it works, completely. Yellow by Coldplay will never sound the same.

Reading Booth by Karen Joy Fowler. Not normally a fan of the family saga, but here, the characters are so neatly observed, the period details and events deployed so cleverly, it's superb. If I read a better book this year I'll be delighted.
