Hammer Down
The best win of the first two weeks of the season will belong to Purdue. Boilermakers take a third straight win in as many years against Alabama with a 87-80 W in Bama's joint. Preseason NPOY Braden Smith: 29 points, seven rebounds, four assists.

Like, have you ever seen an extremely heated discussion about "are you an [x] or not?" in which x is not only not defined, but both parties refuse to define it. And if it were defined, little argument would be possible. I find this somewhere between deeply mysterious and incredibly dull.

Great news!
Big news out of Indiana today as Republican legislators surprise everyone by saying no to Donald Trump.

Each crack in Trump’s facade of inevitability will lead to more. Let’s keep it up!

Pritzker: "In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists & protesters when unprovoked what would we call it? If officials marched down streets harassing civilians & demanding their papers, what would we say? I don't think we'd have trouble calling it what it is: authoritarianism"

🚨 "Let's agree to disagree" is destroying relationships.

The dream interpretation story of Genesis 41 doesn't really make Joseph appear blessed with divine powers of interpretation, so much as it makes Pharaoh and his soothsayers seem daft. The symbolism isn't exactly deep and layered here, guys.

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

Today proves that Republicans were serious about one promise: to cut taxes for the wealthy. All the rest was bullshit.

Is this real? Where is the ball pit?
The scene at Andrew Cuomo's election night party, held in a very cavernous space on the fourth floor of the Carpenters Union Hall.

There's a bar serving beer and wine ("donation-based") and a stage set up for an eventual speech.

Polls close at 9 p.m.

This is how I've felt for a while regarding politics. It isn't so much the outcomes of elections (though it's that too), it's the utter disillusionment. The optimistic kid in me who thought everyone had a baseline decency level has died.
Seeing what was and was not a deal-breaker for folks really did a number on my mental health.

Unilaterally starting an illegal war without congressional approval has to be grounds for impeachment right? Not that an impeachable offense would be new...

I've just e-mailed Senator Todd Young and called his office. If you live in Indiana and care about what is happening, I would ask you to please do the same. Senator Young is one of a handful of republicans in congress who puts his oath to the constitution before his loyalty to his party or president

Today they have crossed a deep red line.

We, the people, must hold the president and his appointees accountable for this outrageous abuse against American liberty.

Don't just say it's unconstitutional, remind people that the constitution is full of very good ideas designed to prevent authoritarianism, and most people who want to ignore it want that specifically because they are authoritarian.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

I am not a philosopher, but here is an argument for moral realism:

P1) Sentient creatures exist.

P2) Sentient creatures can experience pain and suffering

P3) The actions of Sapient agents can lead to an increase or decrease in the pain and suffering of sentient creatures.
