Master of Wine, greedy girl, keen traveller. Married to a genuine genius. Glass always 1/2 full: sometimes gamay, syrah or, occasionally, water. Currently writing a book on Beaujolais. Yum!
I really couldn’t hope for a more inspirational view while writing my chapter on viticulture in Beaujolais. The vineyards of Morgon in the foreground, those of Fleurie behind

Zin has a reputation as a grape that makes hedonistic but simple wines. A tasting of Ridge’s Lytton Springs put that myth to bed in conclusive fashion. 1976 might not have been on top form, but 1989 was singing. The sweet spot was around the 15-year mark. Astounding wines, with depth & vibrancy.

Notes on social media in the time of Trump; mostly for me - YMMV.

1. Be kind, both to others and to yourself.

2. Seek support for good things, but don’t retransmit horror unless there’s a positive action attached to combat or mitigate.

Bloody hell. David Lynch, RIP. Farewell to and idiosyncratic movie genius who ploughed his own furrow

If you thought all Beaujolais Nouveau was ephemeral here-today, trash-tomorrow, think again. I tasted around 30 Beaujolais Nouveaux at home with the help of Tamlyn Currin (a thoroughly delightful tasting companion - and I’m not just saying that because we mostly agreed) & we found plenty to excite

Those people that did not vote for Trump are going to have to get active otherwise you're going to get Vance in 4 years. That is very bad for the planet. #politics #USA #climate

A gentle reminder that you should always resist the temptation to tag a creative person into a negative review of their work. It doesn't matter what your intentions are, it's kind of an asshole maneuver. You are free to say whatever you like, of course. Making it their problem, however, is not kind.

It’s got to be anchovies (salted, of course).
Quote post this with your favourite thing from a tin:

Smoked mussels or oysters!

A big, sarcastic 'thank you' to the tosser who nicked my debit card details & racked up nearly £2k's worth of spending on Vinted on Christmas day. Secondary thanks (also sarcastic) go to my bank, which has acknowledged the theft but has yet to refund me, leaving me overdrawn for the foreseeable

Our pre-Christmas break in adorable Dorset, featuring Barty (how much is that schnauzer in the window?) and a generous squeeze of Lyme (Regis)

So, @cluboenologique.bsky.social published my piece about the excellent Giant Steps wines the other day. Truly fabulous Chardonnay and Pinot from the Yarra. cluboenologique.com/report/giant...

I posted the last version of this too hastily. I wasn't satisfied with the art so I added more yeast. Now I think I'm done with it.

Burgundy week arrived early this year, with tastings given by Gregory Patriat and David Gleave for Boisset, and Matthieu Mangenot and Cyrille Jacquelin for Albert Bichot. All keen to talk about the value of lesser-known appellations: some of the wines were truly delicious and relatively affordable

I read somewhere that reposts are important here as there's no algorithm

If you see a post you like, find useful, funny etc. get in the habit or reposting if you were used to just liking on X

The more often the good stuff gets shared, the better our timelines will be

A word of advice if you're new here... it's a good idea to add a bio and a few posts before you start following people. And also like and repost a few things. I have a lot of new followers and I have no idea about who some of them are because there are no bios or posts. Thanks!

Inevitably the same people who lost their shit over Starmer receiving a free concert ticket are now losing their minds because he turned down free membership of a golf course.

A (very) small selection of some of my faves from today’s tasting of new-release Rhônes from Thorman & Hunt. Some delicious whites from a fresher-than-recent-averages vintage, and cool, sinewy, peppery Syrah 💕

Only been in Hungary for a couple of hours, but I’m already tasting blind (and failing dismally - apparently I can’t tell the difference between Hungarian Furmint and Slovakian Furmint - the shame of it 🧐😂). Ah well, fail again, fail better next time!

Another fab day in Beaujolais, centred around Brouilly & Cote de Brouilly, with cameos from the vignerons of Blacé, most notably rising star JB Bachevillier of @domainedemontjoly, seen here demonstrating differences between limestone-rich Pierres Dorées & redder granites. Great geek labels too!
