This is horrifying. Those who cut USAID and those who celebrated it - and also those who voted for Trump - should see the results and repent.
NEW: Without USAID funding to help buy food for refugees, the World Food Program rushed to prioritize families based on need, determining that only half the population would get food.

Refugees learned which half they were in from a number stamped on the back of their ration card.

“Brutal and traumatizing”: Interviews and a trove of internal documents show government officials and aid workers desperately tried to warn Trump advisers about impending disaster and death.

The Paris agreement is a shared commitment to life on earth and despite the slow progress it is working. Trump and others have done terrible damage, but real progress has been made, and Paris gives ecosystems and civilizations a real shot at survival.

This is a great piece on efforts to envision a truly transformational regional rail system for So Cal. Looks at all these publicly-owned tracks! We should have have 15 minute peak service running under overhead wires powered by 100% renewable energy.

Americans increasingly can't afford their cars. We need to invest in fast, frequent, electric regional rail so that more people - especially in rapidly-growing, lower income areas like the Inland Empire and Central Valley - can save money by going car-free.

Reminder that overhead catenary trains are easier to maintain and cost less to operate than diesel trains. Rail electrification doesn't just eliminate tailpipe emissions, it leads to faster, more frequent service and higher ridership.

We're spending $20B to bail out Argentina, but they cut USAID down to the bone, causing deaths around the world. The entire budget of USAID, the whole agency, was $21B last year. Shameful.
The Trump administration confirmed that the U.S. bailed out Argentina.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he had directly bought Argentine pesos in global currency markets in a bid to relieve pressure on the nation’s embattled President Javier Milei, a supporter of President Trump.

This is a great example of local actions that both reduce carbon pollution (climate mitigation by enabling carbon free active transportation) and also increase the resilience to climate impacts (climate adaptation by designing systems to handle increased amounts of rainfall due to climate change).
They aren’t just flower beds!!!

Fascinating peak beneath the surface of one of London’s new Cycleways - you can see the complex drainage system that ensures bike lanes help protect the capital from heavy rain & the effects of climate change.

And don’t they look great when they’re finished? 💚🚲👍

It’s pretty simple:

- AI is driving electricity demand up

- The Trump Administration is restricting new electricity supply from being built

- When demand goes up and supply goes down, you pay more for electricity.
