This is why virtual options and mitigation protocols are needed for in-person events. This way, when someone requests this type of accommodation, it is not seen as “too much” or “difficult” but as a way to ensure accessibility. This is especially true for high-stakes in-person events.

When we spoke in 2020, Alice Wong wondered if a million Covid deaths would drive Americans to care.

By 2022, a million Americans had died of Covid.

It marked a before and after for us.
This 23-hour radar loop shows Category 5 Hurricane Maria approaching Puerto Rico on September 19-20, 2017. It made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane ~6am on the 20th, but right around that time, the winds in the outer eyewall obliterated the radar and the loop ends. Maria devasted the entire island

It's funny how vaccines worked so well that now infant mortality is low enough for all the new generations to forget it was ever a common thing.

Vaccine stability has made us forget why it was so important in the first place.

Before vaccines, 450 children died out of every 1000. Now? 20.

New Mexico is overriding the federal government on the topic of COVID19 vaccines to ensure their residents can access them.

States hold a tremendous amount of public health power. They should use it.

the thing I love about Zohran’s campaign is that instead of “this place fucking sucks and I alone can fix it” his message is “being a New Yorker rules, we live in the best city in the world, let’s make it even better together”

show some damn pride in the places you want to govern

Vaccines are no different; just like seatbelts, airbags, and other medications, they are risk mitigation measures that we know are effective.

But we know NONE of these things are always effective.

Vaccines must be viewed the same.

The “mild” Covid infection is like a hurricane 🌀 whose eye didn’t touch land. Might not have experienced the worst of it, but effects are cumulative. If the immune system is already compromised/the infrastructure has been diminished, it’ll have negative effects for however long. #CovidSurge
