Read this but also even just the paragraph that starts “On the 30th anniversary of the massacre, Thompson went back to My Lai and met some of the people whose lives he had saved…”

Op-Ed: A forgotten hero stopped the My Lai massacre 50 years ago today
Everybody’s heard of the My Lai massacre — March 16, 1968, 50 years ago today — but not many know about the man who stopped it: Hugh Thompson, an Army helicopter pilot.

Always learning and growing. As the landrestorationschool.org starts, I'm reminded of beginnings: the first clunky slab pot I made as a kid; the first clunky glass vessel I made more than 20 years ago. Teachers who share, welcome & encourage are people that I really value and aspire to be more like.

This study, co-authored by my UW–Madison colleague Dietram A. Scheufele, confirms what many of us know: Black women in STEM face deep, persistent bias. We must keep pushing for equity. I stand with Black women in science. Always. #Blacksky #STEM #SciComm #UWLSC

I received a heartbreaking email today: A paper in a special issue I’m editing is being retracted because one of its authors is afraid of losing their job and their legal status in the U.S. if they publish a scientific study on evolution. Yes, on evolution, nature's engine of diversity.

Pay attention. We are witnessing a turning point in history. The fear of a more diverse and united America is driving desperate tactics of division. The real power lies in our UNITY, in coming together to build a more just and inclusive future. Don’t crash out! Keep fighting for what’s right. ✊🏾🇺🇸

In this time of generational terribleness, I will be a long scratch, one of millions of us, made persistently in the hardest rock as part of a powerful glacier. I will speak science, without reservation or equivocation. I will act to counteract.

Exploring Kionywarihwaen, its Wendat place name (aka Crawford Lake) in Ontario. A rare meromictic lake whose deep water and upper water do not mix, so sediments at the bottom perfectly record time, with much data, and for 1000 years. Famous as having recorded the start of the Anthropocene era.
