I think there can be a conflation of centrism with being balanced or inhabiting the ‘depressive position’ sometimes without putting in the work and sorting out one’s thoughts & moral compass on a given issue. /1

I think these dynamics become more deeply problematic with marginalized patients. The powerful therapist, perched high atop their place of privilege and knowing, bestows wisdom upon the simple fool unable to educated themself. As Gherovici often repeats, even the poor can afford an unconscious.

Yes, think there’s some agreement to group norms, for sure. Was trying to capture a kind of harsher restraint that emerges in some groups that are overly inhibiting.
