It is very true that I have a soft spot for Ancient Glass, but I defy anyone to not admire this! A gorgeous emerald-green glass boat model from Pompeii: ca. AD 25-50. #Pompeii #AncientBluesky 🏺

Imprisoned in a cube of concrete and steel bars in a forgotten corner of the parkland of a minor Welsh stately home sits the world's largest single block of coal

It was hewn by the master collier John Jones (known as 'Collier Mawr' ) at the Yard Level, Tredegar.

Probably an unpopular tale, I realise, but if you were critical of Trump's pardons when he left office you should be speaking out today, holding Biden to the same standard

Argh, not this old canard again!! If anything, it's probably the opposite: pre-Clovis sites likely could be defended from a position of job security and doing so did not automatically "ruin your career". Lemme show you, time for a thread! #pseudoarchaeology #zombieclaims #clovisfirst 1/n
Variations of the "archaeologists are concerned about reputation" comment are common in the pseudoarch realm. Such as the one below, which is simply false. Critical analysis of previous research is a key part of archaeology. Remember, critical ≠ immediately negative. 🏺

Around 1800 BCE, a businesswoman named Taram-Kubi received 20 shekels of fine gold, presumably as payment for textiles she wove.

She lived in Assur, capital of the Assyrian empire, and sent her textiles to far-flung Anatolia for her husband to sell them cdli.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/artifacts/28...

There’s something extraordinary about this otherwise pretty standard Late Bronze Age axehead:

A human fingerprint. A real, visible and tangible connection to someone from 3000 years ago. If that doesn’t give you goosebumps, idk what will. 🥹
