4/4 - So I now have asked for a whole body scan to ensure something isn’t missed. And I hope the PCP sees the value in it after the explanation I offered in my follow-up note to her. #47XXY #Klinefelter

3/x - And this was my epiphany of the day. I now realize when advocating for myself, I will often have to explain the mosaic aspect of my condition because traditional labs and treatments may not catch hyperlocal issues.

2/x - This is because my condition is mosaic - it can manifest in hyperlocal instances (down to a single finger or toe). So when I asked the technician to cover additional areas, she politely informed me it could only be done at the doctor’s order. #47XXY #Klinefelter

(Cont) Telling me her husband often takes more traditionally feminine roles in their home and she doesn’t see him as feminine for it. It’s invalidating and infuriating. My decision to change providers was the right one. // 3/3 #Queer #Intersex #47XXY #Klinefelter #MentalHealth

(Cont) As I was in the middle of explaining (at my final session) how Klinefelter groups online often work to reassure members they’re no less of a man for KS, and how that didn’t fit my experience, she fell into the exact same pattern of those groups. // 2/x

(Cont) I hope this helps someone on a #MentalHealth healing journey find the right #psychiatrist, #psychologist, #LCSW, or other provider. // 6/6 // #Queer #LGBT #Intersex #Nonbimary

(Cont) It may sound obvious but I suspect most patients feel like they owe loyalty to their providers, or fear “starting over”; here’s the thing, if you’re not healing, you’re wasting your time AND the provider’s. Once you find the right Doc, you’ll be glad. // 5/x

(Cont) It took me 25 years to learn this lesson after a psychiatrist refused to let me revisit a bipolar diagnosis and insisted I was just in denial. The medication was doing mental and physical harm so I “fired” her. Be bold and own your own path to healing and mental health maintenance. // 4/x

(Cont) So it’s time to for me seek that out. #MentalHealth isn’t a single, universally treatable challenge. It’s diverse, personal, and requires a basic contextual understanding from the provider who knows what questions to ask to develop an individualized treatment plan. // 3/x

(Cont) My current provider was a good choice at the time when we started 4 years ago, but doesn’t understand Queer culture, sexual minorities, or the related contextual traumas.

I’m at a new intersection and need to work with someone who understands these things. // 2/x

(Cont) There are things I want to explore and try as a more gender fluid, intersex human. My societal norm training keeps mentally pushing back because the fight or flight protective instinct kicks in. I need space to grow and become who I really am; where do I find it? 4/4 #47XXY #Klinefelter
