My Death, My Decision
@mydeathmydecision.bsky.social
A right-to-die campaign organisation wanting a more compassionate approach to dying in the UK, including medically #AssistedDying for the terminally ill and the incurably suffering.

Send a postcard to the Lords: www.bit.ly/postcards-lords.
Lord Watts says that with the number of amendments tabled, it's clear that this is about wrecking the Assisted Dying Bill, not scrutinising it.
November 21, 2025 at 2:15 PM
Baroness Hayter claims the amendments proposed "are not about making the bill acceptable... It’s a way of trying to stop our discussion and proper scrutiny."

This intervention was made after nearly two hours, with only one speech by a supporter of the Bill.

The assisted dying Bill introduces far greater protections for vulnerable people than exist in the current law - Lord Pannick
November 21, 2025 at 11:24 AM
MPs are increasingly worried about tactics in the Lords that are holding back the Assisted Dying Bill. Decisions on this issue should rest with elected politicians, not those using delay to avoid debate.

Thank you to @kitmalthouse.bsky.social for speaking up for the terminally ill.

Disabled people deserve the same choices as everyone else, including how they die.

Our patron Jean Eveleigh told the Committee she’s given evidence seven times to make sure disabled voices are heard in this debate.

People with disabilities face additional barriers under current law.

Those unable to travel abroad are denied the same choices others can access, an inequality at the heart of the status quo. #AssistedDying

"It’s important not to be too paternalistic. The Bill is trying to provide a choice at the end of life. It’s not compulsory, it’s not an expectation, and it’s certainly not to be used as a weapon." Professor Liz Wicks, giving evidence to the Joint Committee on Human Rights. @tomgordonld.bsky.social

Evidence from New Zealand shows that families felt gratitude and relief when their loved ones were no longer forced into drawn-out suffering, and they no longer had to witness it. #AssistedDying
November 5, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Dr Snelling, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law at the University of Otago, told the Committee that the overwhelming feedback from patients and families in New Zealand was gratitude. Even relatives who were initially unsure often became advocates of #AssistedDying.

Evidence from New Zealand challenges claims about coercion. Disabled patients reported that relatives tended to urge them away from assisted dying rather than push them toward it. #AssistedDying

Professor Chris Whitty reminds us that end-of-life choices aren’t one-size-fits-all. Some want every extra day, others want comfort and dignity for fewer days. Both choices deserve equal respect. #AssistedDying
November 5, 2025 at 3:50 PM
A powerful reminder from Professor Chris Whitty: equality demands a system that every dying person can understand, especially in their final months. Complexity should never be at the detriment of choice. #AssistedDying
November 5, 2025 at 3:33 PM
Professor Sir Chris Whitty warned the House of Lords not to pile on extra layers of regulation to the #AssistedDyingBill. He said the priority should be deciding what needs protecting and keeping the system as simple and clear as possible for dying people.

Sir Nicholas Mostyn KC said the current law is “malign”, forcing people to die alone without the help and support of their loved ones. He warned that opposing the Bill means endorsing this status quo. #AssistedDying
November 5, 2025 at 12:09 PM
Former DPP Sir Max Hill KC just told the Lords that the current law is unsatisfactory in every respect. Investigations start after death, families wait months in limbo, and compassion has no place. His message was clear: the law cannot stay as it is.

The claim that evidence on medications used in assisted dying is “limited” was firmly challenged today by Lord Markham.

Other countries have gathered decades of data from 1000s of assisted deaths, evidence the UK can draw on.

This isn’t guesswork. The evidence already exists.

There are currently no formal safeguards for people who choose to end their lives because of unbearable suffering.

The Assisted Dying Bill would change that, introducing clear oversight, regulation and protection for those most at risk.

Dr Kite, President at the Association for Palliative Medicine: "It is a great source of comfort to know that it is possible. Relatives in Australia have told me that."

Many who seek #AssistedDying internationally never use it. Just having the choice offers great comfort.

Around the world, assisted dying and palliative care work hand in hand.

In every country where assisted dying is legal, access to palliative care has improved, not declined. Compassion and choice can coexist. #AssistedDying

“The assisted dying debate has started a national conversation about death and dying.”

Toby Porter, CEO of @hospiceuk.bsky.social, told the Lords Committee this dialogue could help more people access palliative care earlier and avoid traumatic end-of-life treatment. #AssistedDying

Professor Nicola Ranger, General Secretary and Chief Executive at the Royal College of Nursing: 🗣️"The public must have confidence in the process, but it can't be so complicated that the principle of autonomy is lost in this"

The college is neutral on the matter of #AssistedDying.
October 22, 2025 at 11:14 AM
Dr Michael Mulholland, Honorary Secretary at Royal College of General Practitioners, says the college is pleased people will have the ability to make their own decisions regarding their health and death. The college is currently neutral on the matter of #AssistedDying.

There are no safeguards now; this Bill puts them in place.

@kimleadbeatermp.bsky.social on why the Terminally Ill Adults Bill would create the safest assisted dying law in the world.

The bill's sponsor, @kimleadbeatermp.bsky.social
reminds the committee that public support has been very strong for many years: "We owe it to them to get it right."
