Over the first two debates, those opposed to the Bill have spoken for six hours! Meanwhile, supporters of the Bill (excluding the Bill sponsor) have spoken for less than an hour.

Peers now need to recentre the people at the heart of this debate. Terminally ill people cannot wait while the Lords get caught up in delay tactics. #AssistedDying

Sir Max Hill, former DPP, told the Committee that the Assisted Dying Bill is unlike any model overseas - “it stands alone”. It draws on lessons from more than 30 jurisdictions and, in his view, “is far more powerful” and robust in its framework than any that currently exists.

Sir Nicholas Mostyn KC said the current law is “malign”, forcing people to die alone without the help and support of their loved ones. He warned that opposing the Bill means endorsing this status quo. #AssistedDying

Former DPP Sir Max Hill KC just told the Lords that the current law is unsatisfactory in every respect. Investigations start after death, families wait months in limbo, and compassion has no place. His message was clear: the law cannot stay as it is.
