Every authoritarian action Trump is taking must be understood against the backdrop of his declining popularity.

He feigns strength, but he's operating from a place of weakness.

Remember this.

Amazon just announced 14,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $40M last year.

UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year.

Intel announced 20,000 layoffs. Its new CEO's pay package is valued at nearly $69M.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

Reminder that in 2021, Senate Republicans filibustered a bill by Democrats that would have banned partisan gerrymandering of congressional districts.

"National Security" was the same argument our government used 80 years ago to justify the immoral internment of people of Japanese descent at this very military base.

It was wrong then, it’s wrong now.

I tell my students: Budget math isn't about arithmetic. Budgets are statements of values, and behind every number is a choice about who and what we value.

So as you evaluate the Republican budget bill, ask yourself: Does it give voice to your values?

The wages of the richest 1% have skyrocketed 182% since 1979.

Meanwhile, the wages of the bottom 90% have seen just 44% growth.

Relevant to the current state of politics: During the Iran-Contra hearings, Senator George Mitchell said, “Although he’s regularly asked to do so, God does not take sides in American politics. And in America, disagreement with the policies of the government is not evidence of lack of patriotism.”
