Canada not only has no culture any more, we are actively killing the culture we used to have.
Not officially confirmed but Nelvana, one of Canada's most storied animation studios, appears to have quietly closed down on Friday, yet another casualty of Corus Entertainment's struggle to survive.

I'm more concerned about the Eglinton LRT continuing as a P3 project after opening. Crosslinx — who've sued the government twice and were cited with 260 quality control issues in 2023, including improperly laid track — have a 30-year maintenance contract. Yikes. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
Matt Elliott: Eglinton Crosstown LRT finally has an opening date — but the TTC’s service on the line may fall short for these two reasons
The TTC has given us years of reasons to think it’ll screw up the operating of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT once it finally opens.

Left-wing censorship was a fantasy, but the right-wing censorship is real, unconstitutional, and murderous. There was no majority anti-conservative social media bias or casual forced use of words like “birthing person.” But stripping protest rights and official language is actual deadly censorship

A bunch of smug so-called centrists are pivoting from “I’m a liberal centrist but the left has gone too far” to “I’m a centrist but the right is going too far” and all it ever does is benefit the right and get the centrists bylines at legacy pubs that are increasingly gutting real reporting

Keith Haring died of AIDS aged 31 on 16 Feb 1990.
One of his last works, Unfinished Painting, was deliberately incomplete, reflecting the devastating, unquantifiable loss to the arts due to AIDS.

The choice in groceries boils down to whether we want food grown by workers exploited by Canadian companies or American companies. Companies and exploitation being the common point I hope more of us see how impossibly unjust the system is that we can’t easily make ethical choices.

The response to fascism in the U.S. can't be "increase local consumerism" in Canada: it must be an anti-fascist response. Anything less will ultimately benefit the Canadian corporations (Loblaws) and politicians (Ford, Poilievre) that are moving Canada further away from a healthy democracy.
enduring another onslaught of appeals to "buy local" and "shop Canadian/Indigenous" & am begging everyone to consider other ways to support their local communities and economies besides consumerism! use your imagination!!

NEW: My longform report on the field of genocide studies is now unpaywalled. What happens when institutions that grew out of the study of the Holocaust—where Israel is often understood as the survivors' state—must grapple with Israel committing genocide? jewishcurrents.org/can-genocide...
Can Genocide Studies Survive a Genocide in Gaza?
A discipline born from the study of the Holocaust faces its contradictions as Israel stands accused of the “crime of crimes.”
