If you need to taper off tales of the American Revolution after Ken Burns’ series last week, may I recommend a trip to the library to check out Sarah Vowell’s Lafayette In The Somewhat United States? Well researched and with a well-deserved helping of snark Ken probably didn’t feel he should include

Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

For the uninitiated, Marie-Philip Poulin and Laura Stacey of the Montreal Victoire are married, have a habit of fighting on the ice for each other, and got penalties together at today's game. Hockey romance is not a fictional genre in the women's game, that's for sure.

Great piece, updated just as Gotham FC beats Washington to win the title

Left unstated, not surprisingly, is the question of who would pay for a Bay FC-specific stadium. There’s a passing remark in the story about controlling revenue; that’s especially attractive when you don’t pay for the building
“It's home right now. It's home for us. It's home for the foreseeable future."

In remote Alaska, public radio stations like KYUK provide lifesaving information during natural disasters.

But Trump cut funds for public media, and that could mean deadly consequences for the rural community.

Nice to see Reese Laubach get a little national TV exposure (Penn State v. Minnesota on FS1)

A helpful reminder to those of us in Sharks Territory that still more reinforcements are on the way

The local side had a troubled year but I hope their hosting of the NWSL final goes well. The weather will be ideal and for all my disdain for the NFL I hope the same for their shindig in February up the road a piece

I’m guessing this isn’t the biggest problem in the sports betting space (and there’s going to be a flood of proxy bettors for “student-athletes”) but I welcome any formal distance at all between players and gamblers
NCAA athletes and athletic department staff will not be allowed to bet on professional sports after the organization’s membership voted Friday to rescind a rule change that would have permitted those bets. https://to.pbs.org/4pplfu8
NCAA won't allow pro sports betting by college athletes and staff amid gambling scandals
The move follows a string of high-profile gambling cases that have raised questions about the integrity of competition in college and pro sports.

Watching Kings/Sharks on ESPN+ after seeing their match on 10/28 in person. Maybe it’s the Thornton celebration, or maybe just how well Team Teal has been playing lately, but it sounds like the energy in the building is several notches higher tonight. Let’s see what the official attendance is

#SJSharks Macklin Celebrini (13-17—30 in 20 GP) became the fourth teenager in NHL history to post 30 points through their first 20 games of a season. He would join Sidney Crosby (10-22—32 in 2006-07), Wayne Gretzky (9-22—31 in 1980-81 & 9-21—30 in 1979-80), and Mario Lemieux (6-24—30 in 1984-85).

It’s 80’s Night at the Shark Tank but the Sharks weren’t around in the 80’s so they’re wearing Cali Fin jerseys. The Utah Mammoth weren’t around either and they’re in their regular road outfits. And the Sharks jumped on ‘em quick: Celebrinj from Smith and Kurashev at 1:47! Go Sharks!
