Foray into beans continues. And also I'm using this space to save recipe links. >.>

I tried another New Orleans red beans and rice recipe, this time using dried beans. It was all right - I suspect that the tabasco sauce I omitted […]

We ate most of 6 before I remembered to take a picture.

Foray into "beans" part 5 was a grain. A barley salad that turned out fantastically as good as advertised in the recipe.

I used barley instead of farro, and perilla oil instead of olive oil. The combination of sour from the vinegar with toasted cumin and […]

99% beep rate in support of today's health worker strike at the hospital. Woot!

Bonus: it was right next to the bus stop, and I arrived and left in under an hour, so bus was a free "transfer." Double woot. :)

Having recently gotten our latest covid boosters and measles shots, I went to look up the situation for shingles.

Recommended for people 50+, but only free in NZ if you are exactly 65. If you're 66 and miss getting the first of the two shots while 65, it's not free anymore. And full cost is […]

It turns out that Google AI Overview is absurdly, insanely useful when it comes to coding questions. I can type in "how to do something extremely specific to my situation with actual example numbers and references in [language]", and it will give me a correct answer, with my example bits […]

I'm #crowdfunding for a film via my website as I'm excluded from major platforms (I'm based on the wrong continent) I've developed it since 2018 and will shoot next year, but I have to figure out the vfx needed to envision this futuristic world with no capitalism, where direct democracy thrives […]

1.5 days worth of banging my head against the Power BI wall to figure out how to get it to subtract numbers from a previous table row (correctly!), when I finally noticed, off to the right in the power query header ribbon beyond the little arrow to scroll right, a button that says "Run R script […]

Found a couple deep dents in my bike lock yesterday.
Looks a lot like someone tried to cut it.
My bike has only been parked in two places in the past year - in front of my house, or at work in the bike park behind the "staff only" gate.
While it's not impossible that someone at work is trying to […]

I've been hemhawing about leaving Facebook for a while now, since I have lots of friends and family on there that I wouldn't otherwise have contact with.

Yesterday Microsoft wouldn't let me look at an open public website without logging in. So I cleared all cookies, closed the browser, and […]

Slowly working my way through an assessment for an online course. It has five "tasks" in it. Each task is 4-6 questions. Each question has multiple sub-questions, and each answer is essay.

This is almost like submitting an academic paper to a peer reviewed journal.

I may have permanently lost my hat. :(

It's a light blue ball cap with three cartoon fish on the front, and the words "Life is good." It was a gift from my sister.

If anyone in the Nelson area sees it somewhere, I'd like it back. :(
