Data centres are energy hungry but what if we could use their waste heat to heat our homes?

That's exactly what happens in places like Finland: Cities are tapping the vast amounts of waste heat generated by data centres, and feeding it into district-heating networks.

A triumphant and welcome return.
NEW VIDEO: Big business is a death cult worshipping a many-faced Techno God. In an industry full of takers who want to eradicate the makers, so-called AI promises a nonsensical fantasy where games are made for free and sold to a world of laid off former workers. It is unhinged.

I’ve only managed one of these 😞 It’s reading. 32 books this year so far. Music wise I’ve kinda listened to mostly old stuff this year. And I haven’t been to the cinema once.
I don’t do resolutions but I do always try to change things up a bit come the New Year. My hope for 2025 is 1) listen to much more new music than this year, 2) go to the cinema once a month (I usually wait for stuff to come out on blu ray), and 3) read more than in 2024. All manageable.

I can only assume that the grift has ceased to be profitable.

20 years since the Xbox 360 released. Absolutely loved mine and seeing the anniversary celebration videos on YouTube is really making me want to set mine up again and pick up a games bundle on eBay to revisit some great gaming times.

I’ve had a PlayStation Classic pretty much since it came out and I’ve barely used it but when I have used it it’s been light on games requiring L2/R2. This week I’ve had it out playing Wipeout, pretty L2/R2 heavy. BOTH controllers now have broken L2 buttons. I’ve barely completed a championship.

There is a whole generation of gamers for whom Half Life 3 means absolutely nothing.

I’m reading Stark, Ben Elton’s debut novel, released in 1989. Pushing 40 years old and some of the central messages - self interested super wealthy are killing us all, the planet is cooked - are still relevant, perhaps more so than ever. Nothing changes.

Two separate delivery drivers today - Yodel and Amazon - both reckon they attempted delivery but nobody was home. I’ve been in all day. Utterly fucking useless.

Fuck me B&M, are you trying to kill me? Threw a Tunnocks Teacake into my gob only to be overwhelmed by a taste of wrong, right in the bin, and no wonder - THREE MONTHS out of date!

The Vampire Hunter D novels are so good, and they feel like they’re bursting with possibilities for a From Software videogame. I was surprised to find that there is a VHD game on the PlayStation and it’s bad.

Tonight’s movie is A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Best in the series, best soundtrack too.

As soon as AI videos started showing up I said we’d reach a point where AI generated video ended up on the news as real events. I genuinely didn’t expect it to happen this quickly. I guess it’s easier when the “journalists” in question are so eager to believe it though.
So there were some AI-generated videos that purported to show Black women ranting about SNAP benefits, and... Fox News is reporting on this like these are real people. They're not! They're AI!

This is truly insane. Total unreality. www.foxnews.com/media/snap-b...
