Currently writing something on #Platonism and #IslamicPhilosophy - as ever back to Henry Corbin’s invocation of Platonism but also bringing #ishraq into conversation with Lloyd Gerson’s recent trilogy

Perhaps the best known proponent of the Futuhat as the repository of the teachings of Ibn ‘Arabi is the work of William Chittick
November 15, 2024 at 10:18 PM
Most recently we have the new commentary by the Algerian #Shadhili #Darqawi Sufi ‘Abd al-Baqi Miftah (b. 1952) perhaps one of the leading Ibn ‘Arabi scholars of our time - who happens also to be René Guénon’s translator into #Arabic
November 15, 2024 at 10:18 PM
Although the #Futuhat did not enjoy the same commentary tradition as the #Fusus there were some notable works by 1) ‘Abd al-Karim al-Jili (1365-1424) 2) ‘Abd al-Wahhab al-Sha’rani (1493-1565) especially his Yawaqit which is a good summary of the text
November 15, 2024 at 10:18 PM
And the #Urdu translation by Ahmad Shahi published by the Ibn ‘Arabi Foundation of which 4 volumes (out of the 37) have appeared so far
November 15, 2024 at 10:18 PM
(Earlier selections appeared in English and French - even some time ago serialised in the journal Gnose that used to be edited by René Guénon)
November 15, 2024 at 10:18 PM
This is the basis of the new #English translation by Eric Winkel - see www.thefutuhat.com/about
November 15, 2024 at 10:18 PM
More recently there is also the ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Sultan al-Mansub edition in 13 volumes including indices
November 15, 2024 at 10:18 PM
The famous critical edition with annotation by the late scholar ‘Uthman Yahya covers roughly half the text and 16 volumes have appeared
November 15, 2024 at 10:18 PM
This text was published through the efforts of the famous Algerian patron and Sufi ‘Abd al-Qadir (1808-1883) three times through the press at #Bulaq in Cairo - in 1269/1853, then in 1293/1876, and then in 1329/1911 - this latter has been printed number of times especially with Dar Sadir

I just saw a reference to a new edition of al-Futuhat al-Makkiyya of Ibn ‘Arabi (d. 1240) under the general editorship of Shaykh ‘Ali Gom’a (b. 1952) former mufti of Egypt - it has been on sale at the book fairs including #Sharjah recently
