A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

Our leading news organizations turned a cache of ultimately-innocuous emails into a scandal-coded weeklong series of front page stories leading into the 2016 election. If they do not cover the "emails from notorious pedophile implication the President" emails with the same fervor, it's curious!

So much you can say about his legendary performance in RAN but one thing I'll always think of is how he managed to nail his performance in one of the riskiest shots in film history - a huge character moment as he walks away from the castle set that they are literally burning down behind him

Ok. Fair point. This is now an OBLIVION (2013) appreciation thread. Let's discuss the underrated Tom Cruise sci-fi thinker OBLIVION. I think this one was killed by having a forgettable and vague title even more than the more-famously-underrated EDGE OF TOMORROW was. Trippy visuals and cool premise

It's funny that the type of candidate centrists say they want - the non-ideological, competent, get-shit-done type - actually exists and would be running for reelection as NYC Mayor right now if most of the centrists hadn't backed insane corruption lord Eric Adams instead of her in 2021
