We’ve got work to do buttercups, shall we get started?

I’m going to rant and rave A LOT about how there are (almost certainly) going to be major cuts to state provided HCBS.

(Home and Community Based Services, separate from mandated Long Term Services/Supports)

Why not give ya a quick breakdown of what some of those community focused programs are!?

KFF has a FANTASTIC break down of how that $50Bil. will (potentially) be allocated.

They built us up, Buttercups.

So while MCD/ACA are predictable, they aren’t profitable.

Coverage/payment amounts are heavily regulated and while MCOs can wiggle a little here, they can’t wiggle into sustainable profit.

LTSS services are a huge chunk of payer costs as MCOs. Medicare, Medigap, and commercial policies don’t cover

these services. But Medicaid DOES. And so does the ACA. ACA gave states increased funding in order to expand their HCBS services (I’ll do a thread on HCBS to highlight these services) including LTSS.

While ACA payers aren’t directly responsible for these costs, without the ACA, HCBS programs would

Hey folks with commercial/private policies who think it doesn’t matter if ACA dies..

Your premiums are about to sky rocket too….

HOLD THE FUCKING LINE.
We want this #shutdown to end as much as anyone, but giving in to promises of a future vote on ACA subsidies is weak sauce. The House pen won’t even allow it and we can do this shutdown dance again in January. 😩

Senators, don’t make all this pain for nothing. Be bold. HOLD. THE. LINE.

Heya pals!

It's a (not so) Marvelous #MedicaidMonday and I was talking to my buddy @altstategov.altgov.info and, folks, well to be quite blunt, we're pretty pissed off at @democrats.senate.gov caving last night.

For today's #Medicaid Monday, let's talk about some of the OTHER parts of the ACA

Almost every major player in the insurance game also act as an MCO for Medicaid and a marketplace payer.

Why’s that matter? Because Medicaid/ACA are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP.

While Medicaid/ACA margins for payers are steady and reliable, without financial risk, the net profit is slim to none.

Oh, baby cakes, let’s talk about this.

Can't say it enough. My parents have Medicare. I have Medicaid. We don't want Medicare for all, we want Medicaid for all. And if Medicaid for all is too low-falutin for you, go buy private insurance supplements, they'll be happy to take your money and give you less than nothing in return.
