The Lycurgus cup. 4th century CE Roman glass. The use of small gold and silver particles in the glass shows a different color depending on whether or not light is passing through it: red when lit from behind and green when lit from the front.

Love everything that’s going on here at this intersection in Pompeii. Marble public fountain, religious shrine, water tower (for regulating pressure from the aqueduct), public gathering space, and stepping stones! Intersections are where much of the action is in Roman cities. #archaeology

End of an era.
The U.S. government started making pennies in Philadelphia in 1793 when the city was the nation’s capital. It stopped Wednesday, November 12.

Evora, Portugal is lovely. You can visit Roman ruins, people watch and have an Alentejan meal in Giraldo square, and contemplate your mortality in The Chapel of Bones.

Tough, tough loss for the Jays. But what a series. Congrats to the Dodgers. Back to back WS winners even more impressive.
November 2, 2025 at 4:20 AM
Ever since Game 6, I've had a gnawing feeling the Dodgers would win Game 7. Pulling for the Jays still, but Smith HR has their backs against the wall. Damn. They were just 2 outs away and then 1/10th of a second for that cleet to get back down at home plate.

Straw is 0 for 8 in the WS. Now or never...
November 2, 2025 at 4:02 AM
Both teams get out of bases loaded with 1 out (bottom of 9th and top of 10th). I'm 99.9999% sure that's never happened in a Game 7 of the WS.
November 2, 2025 at 3:55 AM
What a WS and game 7. First HR to tie it in the top of the 9th, collision in the outfield to prevent the winning run. What else is in store?
