Lula, in particular, has never moved towards judging, penalizing, or reforming the Brazilian military, quite the opposite instead – the latter still holds a huge chunk of the federal budget.

The same murderous military men who killed, tortured, and kidnapped thousands of Brazilian activists, students, Black, and Indigenous claiming democracy, equality, and liberation during the 1960s and 1970s now enjoy their retirement without any resemblance of accountability. Impunity is the norm.
