It's nearly The Traitors finale time so I asked a bunch of social scientists whether the UK is becoming sneakier. (Turns out there's evidence it might be.) Obviously I made sure to ring up the the pre-eminent expert in this field [Wilf from series one]. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Sneaky Britain? How our moral compasses are changing
Could the popularity of The Traitors link to something wider going on among Britons - and our shifting attitudes towards dishonesty?

This is a thing of beauty, like an illuminated capital from a medieval manuscript or Celtic knotwork in wrought metal. You wouldn't be surprised to find a few running greyhounds or unlikely-looking whales hidden among the undulating curves.

Delay Repay, plus the general order of UK rail, means I keep in effect lending money to various train operating companies, who then give it back me several weeks later, along with a free, albeit massively delayed journey. DISCLAIMER: this is not investment advice; your funds may be at risk etc.

Via BBC housing corr Tarah Welsh, a fascinating (albeit frightening, especially if you own a leasehold) analysis of why service charges on flats in England and Wales have rocketed: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Why service charges in flats spiralled out of control
Bills for leaseholders have risen by 44% since 2016. Is Labour's new plan really the solution?

This is a very good thread, upon which everyone in my trade ought to be doing a fair old bit of reflecting.
I don’t think most people (present company excluded) fully appreciate how much X had changed journalistic output, and in turn wider public discourse.

And I don’t so much only mean the last two years as the whole decade-plus it has existed.

I think I must be in one of those starter pack things they have these days as I have way more followers than my BlueSky posts so far can justify. I used to be moderately prolific years ago in the old place but got sick of it. Anyway, I'm here now. Hello.

In 2013 I had the privilege of interviewing Paul Stephenson about his leadership of the Bristol bus boycott, which overturned the ban on black drivers and conductors working on the city's buses. An extraordinary man with a colossal legacy. RIP. www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazin...
