at the eve of the modern period the only European nations which had assumed their modern form were Portugal, England, and France. Germany, Italy, and Spain were divided, Scandinavia, the Baltic, and Eastern Europe still had its medieval profile, and the Balkans were under the rule of the Turks.

No, he doesn't. Randy E. Barnett and Ilan Wurman should be disbarred and removed from their positions for even saying this. There should be no mercy for people articulating this made up bullshit in the legal profession. They are enablers of fascism no different than the lawyers of the Nazi regime.

Christmas Day, 888 AD, Emperor Leo VI released a sixty-book edition of 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘶𝘴 𝘐𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘴 𝘊𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘴, based on Greek translations of the 6th century 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘶𝘴, stressing the Roman context of Justinian's laws. The gap in law and scholarship between the Byzantine and Frankish worlds could not be made more plain.

just when we need to divert this Titanic a good 90° to avoid disaster, the "legitimate" officers want to make a 3° course correction while a group of criminal malcontents have seized control of the bridge and are going full speed towards the iceberg.

I used to tweet on these topics before moving to BlueSky - but virtually all our planetary & social problems are rooted in cauldron of
1. hyperconsumption
2. a world population still growing by 66-89m net new people/yr
3. mindsets of entitlement, competition & separation from Nature/each other.
This explains the rise of business to business transactions that have swallowed up consumer wishes and choices.

i used to go AA - most people only take action AFTER their lives are destroyed by liver disease, divorce, lost jobs, and
legal trouble.

I am convinced the same applies to civic issues. most people will only change their political opinions after disaster repeatedly happens - if even then.
