Mirage F.1Cs of Escadron de Chasse Vendée, based at BA115 Orange-Caritat in the Provence, 1983, in 1/72 scale. The Mirages are Special Hobby, with panel lines thinned quite a bit.

Really happy with these nice Ian Allan titles I picked up today. Best of all, each book lists individual airframe histories --of every one built! Great reference for research.

Attached, filled sanded and polished the KC-135's windscreen, before masking. All other transparencies have also been covered up. #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels
Slathering black Mr Surfacer in- and onto gaps around the windscreen part. Later I sanded everything back, including raised details on the transparency and a few eindow panes, then polished all back to crystal clarity. 1/72 KC-135. Used an aftermarket masking set but turned out not ao good, so had to help things along with yellow masking tape.

Some nice heavy metal flying things, specifically, my two favourite #aircraft for the week. I don't have definite favourites, so a weekly top two is a nice compromise. So... this week, I have been mostly liking:
the Blackburn Buccaneer and the F-100 Super Sabre.

In continuation of the #HeaviesGB 1/72 KC-135A build, which I will able to finish only through divine intervention, which is nice, here's the process of restoring the rear fuselage re-enforcement ribs which were sacrificed earlier in order to remove the top fuselage seam line. #histscalemodels

I will cover this area with successive layers of Mr Surfacer. If all goes well, after removing the masking tape, raised detail will remain. A Gourdou-Leseurre GL-832 HY catapulted from a light cruiser, possibly the "Primauguet" or the "Émile Bertin".
It was a reconnaissance and observation floatplane built by Gourdou-Leseurre in the 1930s and designed to be carried on French Navy ships.

El modelo de (in)Accurate Miniatures requiere bastante trabajo extra. El encaje resulta problemático en varios puntos, lo que me obligó a hacer muchísimas pruebas antes de poder pegar. Además, ha sido necesario sellar bien todas las juntas…

Además, ha sido necesario sellar bien todas las juntas con cianocrilato para, algunas han necesitado hasta pequeñas porciones de lámina de plasticard para tapar juntas. La consecuencia es un intenso proceso de lijado y afinado.

Slow *apparent* progress on the #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels KC-135A. Installed the moving surfaces I had cut out earlier, offset a bit. More info in alt text. 1/
Rudder and trim tab re-attached, but offest. Parked tanker's rudders usually moved with the wind. Elevators and trim tabs in positive position, as parked planes very often had.

1/72 KC-135A model in progress with a BAe Hawk model for scale comparison. Because the wings have greater (and thus correct) dihedral than the kit allows for, I had to remove a few mm of the inboard wing, a bit more than needed, to give myself a little wriggle room in attaching the wings to the fuselage, leaving a couple of gaps, some pretty wide. Those gaps have been filled with plastic scraps.

So I have a secret concoction for use on glueing transparencies; and glueing them well. See the alt text for that. Anyway yes, #HeaviesGB progress is basically this plus lots and lots of seam sanding. All seam areas need to get down to 1000 grit. #histscalemodels
Window in a 1/72 KC-135 model kit. Modus operandi: Both the edges of the transparency and of the recess in which it fits, are carefully painted with thick black Mr Surfacer 1500. After curing, using Tamiya Cement (orange cap), sparingly apply glue on all contact surfaces with a tooth pick. Gently attach. After curing, check there are no gaps in the contact area—they should be filled. If you're dealing with a window like this, make sure it sits ever so slightly proud of the fuselage. Then comes the trick: cover the outside of the window and the mm's around it with CA (or super-) glue. Yes you read that right. Wait until cured, then sand down and polish until clear. There will be minimal or no seam lines between the transparent and grey plastic, and the transparency will not seek to escape easily.

View of strengthening spars and rods. To achieve the correct wing profile, cuts were made in the wing root, then the plastic around the cut lifted up about a mm or two using wedges. View of the wing's dihedral. Not very easy to photograph. Anyway, this part the kit manufacturer got wrong: when in final assembled and unmodified form, the model's wings would basically have zero angle. A noticeable dihedral is part of the Boeing look IMO.
