Really happy with these nice Ian Allan titles I picked up today. Best of all, each book lists individual airframe histories --of every one built! Great reference for research.

Attached, filled sanded and polished the KC-135's windscreen, before masking. All other transparencies have also been covered up. #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels

Some nice heavy metal flying things, specifically, my two favourite #aircraft for the week. I don't have definite favourites, so a weekly top two is a nice compromise. So... this week, I have been mostly liking:
the Blackburn Buccaneer and the F-100 Super Sabre.

In continuation of the #HeaviesGB 1/72 KC-135A build, which I will able to finish only through divine intervention, which is nice, here's the process of restoring the rear fuselage re-enforcement ribs which were sacrificed earlier in order to remove the top fuselage seam line. #histscalemodels

#HeaviesGB #histscalemodels Ready to do some vacuforming on the KC-135A engine covers. Anyone with tips on how best to heat the plastic?

Slow *apparent* progress on the #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels KC-135A. Installed the moving surfaces I had cut out earlier, offset a bit. More info in alt text. 1/

... Or a C-135F of the Armée de l'Air?

Still making up my mind as to markings. A choice between two. What do you think—should I go for a standard Silver painted USAF KC-135A?

The KC-135A now has its wings on. See alt text for more info. Next: those dreaded intake covers... #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels

So I have a secret concoction for use on glueing transparencies; and glueing them well. See the alt text for that. Anyway yes, #HeaviesGB progress is basically this plus lots and lots of seam sanding. All seam areas need to get down to 1000 grit. #histscalemodels

Hi #histscalemodels modelleers! I need to make engine covers as seen in the pics, 11 mm in diameter. Any tips on how? Especially on how to get those ribs right? (I don't have a 3D printer yet.)

KC-135A #HeaviesGB progress is slow—at least I can now confidently say the wings are straight and kind of have the correct dihedral. See alt text fof more info. #histscalemodels

If you see this, post a bridge.

Erm... No idea... I got a nice flat pebble out of the garden, put that in, some lead weight in the nose as well, should be enough—thing is, it doesn't reeaally need to hold the nose down as the real thing always had a pole propping up the tail... Still I think it's enough weight tho.

Fuselage and wing subassemblies are ready to pair! Sorry for the bad lighting but those big parts need to dry anf cure in a safe place away from any possible clumsiness. The second photo is from yesterday evening and shows weights inside the nose section. #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels

Looks like the Condor airline livery now...

#HeaviesGB #Histacalemodels Here's the KC-135 boom operator's station—wont't be very visible once the outer visor is installed, but I gave it bit of a paint regardless; for the colours see the alt text. Now time to close the fuselage!

British jets. Can't think of one that wasn't cool except for the Trident of course. Those and a good brekkie.

From other online builds I saw Ertl's KC-135A wings seemed to have in common a lack of dihedral. This is because of an enragingly flimsy wing structure. I am trying to get the wings to have that dihedral by strengthening all over the place — with plastic and lime wood... #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels

Easy peasy!

Sure, I use these tools. First I saw into the panel lines perpendicular to the trailing edge, then using both knife and the front teeth of the saw, the parallel ones. At a certain point you might be able to simply snap them off.

Having cut out the Stratotanker tail control surfaces, I then realised the trim tabs also need cutting out. I'll save that for tomorrow. #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels

Made a stab at the Stratotanker flight deck and tanker/ boom operator's station. The flight deck hasn't been detailed a lot—not much can be seen from outside, though I did use a generous amount of wash to maximise contrast. #HeaviesGB

Affixed zirconia bits in places where flood- and landing lights would be on the real Stratotanker. I think I missed a couple. #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels

I cut off the front ring of one J57 engine to be able to somewhat clean the inside seam lines. The other three will be blanked off. The ring's interior is painted with black Mr Surfacer. #HeaviesGB #histscalemodels
