My article in today’s Evening Standard outlines several concerns regarding the government’s proposed Schools Bill. Without meaningful amendments, these proposals risk undermining the significant progress made in recent years, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

A thoroughly enjoyable visit to Oasis Academy Southbank to observe their Eng department in action. The consistently high-quality pedagogy across all the classrooms was impressive. With over 60% of pupils coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, achieving a progress score of +1.5 in Eng is outstanding!

We will be advertising some exciting jobs in due course. The key selection criterion is cultural alignment. Do you believe in the 'warm/strict' approach? Do you hold the highest expectations for pupils and align with our vision for leading state secondary schools? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

Interesting analysis, enjoyably readable & features another eg of seemingly eternal truth that HTs/SLT report over-rosily on what’s going on for their teachers compared to the teachers themselves. Same in our report on mentoring in schools.
For leaders: it’s probably worse than you think 😬

Entropy of school ecosystem = lack of clear rituals/routines + decline in adult authority + ambiguous communication + fear of students/parents + low expectations (behav & learning) + politics within SLT + incoherent ‘group’ pedagogical approach + insufficient focus on results.

We must never overlook the deplorable state of Hackney’s schools in the 1990s. Countless dedicated and hardworking teachers and leaders committed their professional lives to transforming these institutions, laying the groundwork for the successes that pupils and parents enjoy today.
