Absolum, by @dotemu.bsky.social has such great comic style. I can’t help but imagine a Headlopper game by them.

Putting together a poster for my next film night double feature.

This time our co-hosts have chosen Paprika and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Played around with he character creator in Elden Ring and Mocked up one of my own custom Nightfarers using the template!

Because I can’t help myself I created a little template for people to create their own Nightfarers for Elden Ring: Nightreign.

You can use the blank image, below, or find a fully functional affinity suite file on my itch page.

Can we just call him what he is, yet?

America’s first dictator.

Since I’ve been playing a lot of Nightreign I thought I’d do something creative with it and design my own Nightfarer.

Art by Ariamis Art, who has a lot of cool Souls themed fan art on Instagram.

After spending a significant amount of time with Night Reign I can say that Fromsoft are not “trend chasers.”

Truly they are just enthusiastic designers who love games and want to explore all their facets! I’m excited to see what they do with Duskbloods neat year.

In the last month I’ve heard at least two people say they loved Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse and I feel like I’m living in another world. That show was bonkers bad, right?

Queering the Way

One of my favorite collection of shorts this year, I was especially moved by “Buscando Alma” about a trans Honduran Woman who is reunited with the mother she was separated from as a child.

Best Star Trek crew, wrong answers only.

But I was shocked at the quality of animation in Jesus 2, a gonzo cartoon short, and at how much I was emotionally affected by Paradise Man, a film that looks like it was made in blender. Its distorted narration fit perfectly and was as touching as it was dumb.

The Dark Crystal w/ DJ NicFit

I’m sitting down for this and posting now because I don’t think The Dark Crystal needs any reviewing and it would be rude to rate the DJ!

But who am I kidding, it’s gonna be great.

Bonus: I seemingly sat right behind a tabletop rpg creator I admire!

WWYD

This shorts block was on theme with short films asking “what would you do.”

I enjoyed all the entries but Favors, about a young woman who unexpectedly finds herself with a strangers baby, was my favorite. Imagine a block of mini-thrillers! So good.

Paying For It

An adaptation of an autobiographical comic by Chester Brown, this film is humorous and soulful and, at times, self deprecating (twice over?) in a loveably empathetic way.

That Sook-Yin Lee (the director) is a character in Brown’s comic makes this especially intriguing.

Since buying my house, I’ve taken great pleasure in hosting movie night double features. This next month I and a friend picked paired Party Monster and Shutter Island.

But this is really an excuse to share the poster I made.

40 Acres

Like a lot of post apocalyptic horror, this film’s focus is really about a close knit family. What surprised me is it managed to explore aspects of that theme I hadn’t really seen elsewhere.

The writing isn’t always convincing or‘realistic’, but it is fun.

Fully onboard for Fromsoft’s foray into multiplayer-first games.

IMO some of the most innovative competitive and co-op titles have come from single-player developers applying their mastery of narrative to multiplayer gameplay.

PS: Maw is a cool comic! Possibly my best find at this year’s ECCC.

Really excited to see Mickey 17 tonight.

Bong Joon Ho has been one of my favorite directors ever since I saw The Host in a small independent movie theater in Corvallis, Oregon almost twenty years ago.

Chrono Trigger turns thirty today and I can’t overstate how big it was for me as a 12 year old living in his mom’s friend’s living room because we were broke as hell.

The trial, the Green Dream, and the secret endings all made that year feel magical despite the insecurity and bullying at school.

So I’ve been working on some fanwork for Stonetop (because I’m a fan!) and sometimes it’s really refreshing to just put cool ideas on paper and not have to account for literally every little rules detail.

One of my nerdiest indulgences over the past couple months has been watching the anime adaption of Shangri-La Frontier as it comes out.

It’s basically just a love letter to video games, be they triple A or trash and it’s exceedingly positive. Not a bummer in sight!

It’s that time of year
