As I approach 30 years old, I've come to realize one of the greatest tragedies of aging is watching the person I thought my father was, die. Even more painful than that, with the wisdom of age and hindsight, suspecting that that man never existed at all.

While I agree with the general sentiment, I've never liked framing this sort of thing as a rigged game, or cheating at some competition. This is what capitalism is. This is how it functions, fundamentally. Nothing out of the ordinary is happening.
