Just got out of an exhibition of Beyond Monet/Beyond Van Gogh, which was advertised to me as an immersive art experience.

I cannot recommend it and sent this email to the local production company about it.
I attended the Hartford presentation of Beyond Monet and Beyond Van Gogh today. The first portion, the informational and educational segment, was quite good, and I enjoyed walking through it. However, as I watched the animated projection portion, I found myself growing more and more angry and disappointed with this treatment of two great artists. Their art does not require embellishments to connect with people. The projection idea itself is good - but the rippling water effects and colored lines along the edges of the art draw the eye away from the art itself and towards these animated portions. This was disappointing, but not in itself necessarily terrible. I understand the intent, the desire to present the subjects with motion. However, when during the Van Gogh portion, the portraits began to blink and look around the room, I recognized the use of generative AI throughout. The works are able to stand on their own. They are good enough. This effort to enliven them with animation, and to make the faces themselves move, is not presenting the art - it is distracting from it, making it a spectacle of the animation and the technology. It is an insult, a statement that the art itself would not be interesting enough on its own. And this is, frankly, wrong. The art is good enough. Monet and Van Gogh are good enough. I truly believe you do believe this, that you intend to present their work respectfully. However, I believe you have failed. I am deeply disappointed in this exhibit and angry at how this art has been treated, because it is, and it forever will be, good enough. It does not need your animations, your generative AI, to connect with people. It can be presented immersively without these elements which undermine the entire experience. Please, do better.

Today's bird fact: Merlins are not named after Merlin the wizard! Their etymology still doesn't make a ton of sense in Glorantha but I am trying to change only place names in my animal writing.
Outside of breeding season, it will occasionally hunt insects or small mammals, but its preference for other birds is high. It is also noted for a special hatred of crows and ravens, stemming from its strong sense of purity and its ancestor’s disdain for the trickster Raven. It is said that Raven stole Merlin’s eggs at one time, devouring all but one, and the descendants of that single egg, which are all merlins alive today, have never forgotten this attack.

The Pentans are not fond of vultures, thinking of them as the grossest and most impure of all of the raptors, but cannot deny that as raptors they remain high-ranking children of Vrimak.

While vultures are raptors, they are the least pure form of raptor in Pent. They are opportunistic scavengers, and their ancestor is noted for having been lazy and unwilling to hunt, preferring instead to steal from others. He is said to have even been tricked into giving up his fine head feathers to Raven, who used them to decorate her nest, in return for a free meal. It should be noted that the vulture is, while physically similar to the condors of Prax, not related to them. Condors derive from a different lineage of bird, and the King Condor is said to have been a much more ambitious creature than the Vulture ever was, if still a foolish and impure carrion eater. Condors do not make their home in Pent, even on the border with the Praxian Wastes.

My explanation for why a Brithini-derived group both has no inherent moral issue with Tapping, but also almost never does it.

Depiction Sakkar is never portrayed in two-legged form. He is shown always as a large sakkar, a word referring to several breeds of sword-tooth cats found throughout the region. His fur is always black, though the Hsa tend to depict him with white or brown stripes and the Chen Ga depict him with white or brown spots. His fangs extend to below his jaw and are always black with red blood staining them. Often he is emaciated, and he is usually depicted with one paw resting on a human or antelope skull.

To ensure as many warriors survived as possible, the Eater of Summers refused to retreat, making her stand at White Blood Ford. She stood alone, armed only with her great Avalanche Club and her mighty jaws. Again and again the warriors of the Sun came for her. She tore heads from necks, struck men down with single blows, devoured horses whole. For every blow she took, she slew five men. When men were not enough, heroes and gods fought her. She drove off spirits with her mighty roar, slew warriors who tried to go around her, and ensured that not even the great hero Son of Starlight could pass her. They dueled for a full day, and such was Eater of Summers' fury that the ice and snow rained down around her, filling the ford and flooding the river. At last, she struck Son of Starlight down, then bent and tore out his heart with her teeth, swallowing it, as the last of Winter's warriors escaped. However, as she did, her wounds overcame her, and she collapsed to the earth. No enemy dared touch her, for fear she would stand again, and Snow Woman took her into the mountains, and she never again returned to the Glacier.

Undrung is a yak. This is one of the few definite things about them. Their power over the Beast Rune is expressed by the removal of yak-like traits from non-yaks and the removal of non-yak traits from yaks. Initiaties have been known to use the Beast Rune to transform partially or completely into a yak, to remove yak traits (such as thick hair, endurance, horns, strong legs, physical bulk, or hooves) from non-yaks, or to remove human traits (such as baldness, weak legs, or thinness) from yaks. Those strong in the Beast Rune tend to be careful, patient, and quiet. Undrung is the doubter and the seeker, who knows that the things people call truths are anything but. They are not eternal and unchanging, but simply temporary truths in a world that is itself only sometimes real. Undrung is not Trickster, and their use of the Illusion rune reflects this, being an act of precise understanding and philosophical questioning, by which the apparently permanent traits of the things around them are
