I guess I just don’t think of that as a “but”

THANK YOU

Although I do feel like I should add this: the fact that it’s supposed to be “Star Wars” does make the visual style more repellent to me. If it were just some bullshit sci-fi movie unrelated to that universe but everything else looked exactly the same I would probably be able to enjoy it!

I get it. Personally, I hate that scene, hate the design of Darth Maul, hate the fight choreography. I know a lot of people like it, *I* just find the prequels as a whole maybe the most visually repellant artworks ever produced by humans. (I apologize!)

once you put anything other than cheddar/american cheese (or close substitutes) on a grilled cheese, I am not putting it in my mouth under any circumstances

The trench warfare sequence in Solo opens up a frustrating, tantalizing window into an alternate universe where the prequel trilogy is “WWI in space” to the OT’s “WWII in space” (sequel trilogy coulda shoulda been “Cold War in space”!)

There’s stuff in both Solo and Rise of Skywalker that I think I’ll enjoy watching again, there’s nothing in the prequels that I enjoy watching (unironically at least: I’ll marvel at the sheer insanity of the 50s diner anytime)

Nothing that’s wrong with TRoS isn’t either seeded in the prequels or wrong in the exact same way in the prequels, and TRoS visually looks infinitely better than the prequels, which are the three worst-looking movies ever produced.

I mean, many of the characters would have to have different designs, voices, everything, but it’s not until AotC that load-bearing elements become irretrievably broken
November 24, 2025 at 11:22 PM
not something I really think about often but TPM is probably the best of the prequels bc you could have basically the same plot (minus 3P0 & R2, minus virgin birth nonsense) and it would be good if it looked and felt like a Star Wars movie
November 24, 2025 at 11:21 PM
not sure what you mean by “support” for Rise of Skywalker, a movie I have called “bad” in this very thread
November 24, 2025 at 11:16 PM
And I loved him as a kid bc he was a random character who just looked cool! But the whole clone planet Boba Fett thing in AoTC was when something flipped for me and I was like “I think maybe I don’t like Star Wars anymore 🤷🏻‍♂️”
November 24, 2025 at 10:18 PM
No it doesn’t! He’s a random bounty hunter who happens to look cool. His inflated role in the universe is entirely the result of people thinking he looked cool in the original.

how… how do you put Pettite on but not Manny and ARod? That’s extremely weird!

“The big army isn’t people” makes nothing matter
November 24, 2025 at 9:41 PM
Some degree of sense??? Fuckin what
November 24, 2025 at 9:40 PM
TRoS does have the single best thing in all of Star Wars (Babu Frik)
November 24, 2025 at 8:58 PM
I think “has to feel/look cool” is an infinitely better guiding principle for a Star Wars movie than “everything is connected.” I just think Abrams had a bad sense of what was cool in TRoS (but a good sense of it in TFA)

I don’t think any discussion of “cheap fan service” in these movies is complete without mention of “stormtroopers are clones of Boba Fett’s dad”
November 24, 2025 at 8:46 PM
apologies
November 24, 2025 at 8:30 PM
we’re all good, I just like to be over dramatic about how bad the prequels are
November 24, 2025 at 8:29 PM
like the Boba Fett and 3P0/R2D2 shit in the prequels is so much worse to me that a million Jar Jars or Dexter Jetsters
