The whole ethos of the "American dream" is that anyone can come here, work hard, excel and achieve success. Part of that is seeing your children exceed your own successes. For many immigrant parents, seeing their sons and daughters graduate is a major moment.

I don't think it's been widely grasped just how exceptional this defence frequently is.
