The main flaw in her argument is that there seems to be no awareness that the Lohan "original" is already a remake of the Jodie Foster version from the 70s, which was an adaptation of a popular book- and apparently there were others along the way! So it's just a particularly terrible example.

Artist's rendering of the dino hybrid mutant thing from the Jurassic World movie. It has a bulbous skull and a bizarre number of legs. It looks like every sad result of botched attempts at genetic engineering in every sci-fi movie that's not capable of independent life and twitches wetly in goo until it's put out of its misery, except it's upright and angry about it.

in his interview with the Los Angeles Times, Corbet said that he "would never have done it any other way," recounting when he and his daughter "were watching North By Northwest and there's a sequence at the UN, and my daughter is half-Norwegian, and two characters are speaking to each other in [air quotes] Norwegian. My daughter said: "they're speaking gibberish." And I think that's how we used to paint people brown, right? And, I think that for me, that's a lot more offensive than using innovative technology and really brilliant engineers to help us make something perfect." But there is no scene in Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 film North by Northwest set at the United Nations or anywhere else in which two characters speak fake Norwegian or any other faked language. Furthermore, when Corbet brings in the racist practice of brownface makeup that marred movies like 1961's West Side Story, he is doing a further disservice to Hitchcock's film. The U. N. scene in North by Northwest features Cary Grant speaking with a South Asian receptionist played by Doris Singh, not an Anglo in brownface.

Ooooh, they did the original 101 Dalmations illustrations, and they're WONDERFUL. This is the only one I screenshot that has a cat it in, I think.
Page 191 of the original edition of 101 Dalmations. At the bottom of the page, there's a pen-and-ink sketch of a long-haired white cat looking through an open window at a Dalmation under falling snow. The text reveals that the cat has come to live with the Dalmations and the Dearlys, their "pets."

Love this thread and enthusiasm from one of our better Senators (and hope this kind of thing leads to more politicians active here instead of the erstwhile Twitter)!

(I voted and was told my ballot was counted two weeks ago-love L.A. and CA’s competence in this!)

There was just the absolute barest hint of some color in the sky when I was walking to a friend's house earlier tonight, enough that I wasn't sure I was seeing it until I ramped up the saturation. But this is technically an aurora visible via camera inside Los Angeles.
Between the dark silhouette of a tree and the amber glow of a single story house, there's a faint fuchsia/violet glow in the medium-dark blue of the early evening sky.

I saw a reasonably fresh L.A. county "I voted!" sticker in a Paris Metro last fall, and was both perplexed and amused imagining how it got there- L.A. is all absentee now and I assume that includes foreign registrants, but there's a weird degree of intentionality to this.
An L.A. County "I voted" sticker is stuck to a blocky brushed steel rectangle in the upper right hand corner of this photo. That rectangle is part of a freestanding support for a "floating" yellow trash bin in a Paris Metro station, but all you see of that is a yellow arc in the lower left that reflects on the metal surface of support arm and pilllar.

I noticed this on the Criterion Channel and watched on a whim- it's... great?? I'm not really a slow cinema person per se, but the shot compositions are *immaculate.* Just constant subtle beauty.
