Came for the books and sciency stuff.
Stayed for the doomscrolling.
Pinned
Them: "Name?"
Me: "August, like the month."
The order: "Aguest."
Another order: "Auguest."
And another one: "Agast."
On the way home:
No one asked for this math to be done.
We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

@dreugeniacheng.bsky.social told @npr.org “I love the idea that Pascal, at the age of 19, was just bored of doing the arithmetic for his dad at work... ‘I don’t want to do this anymore’—just like any teenager would and should—and went, ‘I’m going to make a machine instead that will do it for me.’”

Me: Is that your way of offering to share?

Them: No.

A book is not a luxury item.

(It can be, but so can food.)

Books are both amazing and cheap.

After all my years, I'm still thrilled by a new book.

Even a bad book is full of potential before you read it.

Read* more books. You'll see what the fuss is all about.

Former boss: "You are a tool I did not know how to use."

Didn't think I was any good as an engineer until then.

I'm definitely enjoying not watching Tron Ares from the comfort of my home, @gizmodo.com.
You'll Be Able to Not Watch 'Tron: Ares' From the Comfort of Your Own Home Next Week
Disney figures that you'll be more inclined to watch the Jared Leto vehicle at home than you ever were in theaters.

A reminder that gas-powered leafblowers are nightmare devices that are bad for you, bad for your lawn, and very bad for the environment. They fume and scream and kill the world all so you can messily and ineffectively move leaves around, leaves which are generally supposed to stay where they fell.

I say this 100 percent without irony: there is a reason why artists, craftsmen, and philosophers all have the same patron deity within my stories. Because artistry requires both craftsmanship and philosophy, and it's as simple as that.
Anyway, since it's come up again, a friendly reminder that artists are craftspeople, and if you don't think carpenters are "cabinetry landlords" then artists can't be "ideas landlords" either.

It's not "left-pilled and based" to steal others' work, you fucking ghouls. Fuck off with that shit.

@qntm.org The word "bedraggled" didn't exist in my origin timeline but it's everywhere here. I don't want to go home, just wanted everyone to know I read it again in your book.

You've written the darkest #horror story I've read this year.

This is wonderful, and shows where curiosity can take you and others (including professionals!) even if you're 8 years old. It helps too that the Astronomer Royal is aces.
Enquiry from an 8yo asking what the Fulton Orrery planets were? Apparently the #Kelvingrove museum staff didn't know, so he e-mailed the Astronomer Royal to find out! I also didn’t know, but the AstroSociety of #Glasgow did (after watching an old VHS recording on the topic!) 🔭 #histsci 1/2🧵
