This past week has demonstrated more than any that the United States is a challenger for the European political community. It's probably a good idea and a good signal to arrest the next Trump world jagoff who wants to engage in illegal political activity in Europe.

I am not sure I can emphasise enough the extent to which Europeans are willing to attenuate engagement with the US by increasing engagement with one another and China. Anti-US sentiment is more pervasive now than any point in my life and we are entering something that looks like a situation pre WWI.

They—like the NSA's Vinh Nguyen—were presumably targeted because of their prior association with the 'Intelligence Community Assessment [ICA] on Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent Elections', the report which described Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election.

My understanding is that the list of people whose clearances have been revoked by Gabbard includes a career civil servant who was until recently the most senior Russia analyst in the CIA & remains senior there. (NYT previously reported it included a snr CIA analyst: www.nytimes.com/2025/08/19/u...)

The European Institutions' open day is an event of such joy and civic virtue that everyone European should see it at least once. I have been to three now and am just blown away by just how fun it is and how dedicated the European Union's civil servants are.

"But sooner or later, Trump could face a foreign-policy crisis, and he will need better counsel than he can get from billionaire defense dilettantes and a MAGA television personality."
Beyond Pete Hegseth lacking the experience to lead the Department of Defense, many of Trump’s nominees for deputies and undersecretaries are also unqualified. During crises, few will have the knowledge to offer steadier guidance:

Who’s Running the Defense Department?
The key criteria for those in the top-tier positions appear to be loyalty, wealth, and ideological fervor, not competence.

You know, I've given a good deal of my life to service to this country. It hurts a great deal to know that America is just another place. And a place that has little, and less every day, to offer the rest of the world as it is.
