Millions of people are worried about paying their rent, feeding their kids or losing vital disability benefits.

If the government cared about people's security, it would reverse cruel cuts, end child poverty and pursue an agenda for peace.

Let's fund welfare, not warfare.

UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.

It would go a long way in addressing the climate crisis, the affordability crisis, the public health crisis, & the equity crisis.

It would improve traffic, save lives, reduce pollution & noise, improve livability & save public money.

Never let anyone tell you the solutions we need are too complex.

I've just had a look at the council decision on this

Alludes to the road supporting development (which will generate more traffic).

It also says that it will remove traffic from unsuitable residential roads and narrow rural roads, but nothing in the decision about making changes to these
Guarantee this won't relieve congestion. A 7mile queue can replace the 6mile one. Into Exeter. Now if they'd have invested in making alternatives to driving better....

-Better parental leave and professional development.

-A better wage scale and more.

It's hard to imagine a more brutal illustration of climate injustice and a failed society than indentured teenage slaves being used to protect the homes of wealthy Americans.
These teenagers and young men — 95% of whom are Black, Latinx, or Filipino — earn between $2.20 and $4 per hour, plus an additional $1 an hour when they’re actively fighting fires, according to the DJJ. ⤵️

Laundering a right wing talking point meant to distract from the climate change angle, purportedly based on a single guy’s comment. Doesn’t mention that she isn’t the mayor of LA *County* and the deadliest of the fires so far is outside of her jurisdiction.

It’s also important to remember that creating a jaded and disgruntled society when it comes to confronting human-caused climate change works to the benefit of politicians, businessman, and corporate executives that have the motive to continue extracting our natural resources for personal profit.
Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Insurance is a racket - health, home, what else? They use fear to extract money, then break their side of the contract. Why do we allow it to exist?
Remain eternally angry that AT LEAST six years ago I started pitching multiple editors about a looming insurance crisis in California and was told it wasn't a real story, or if it was it would affect a small number of people, and even if then, it would be a negligible policy issue.

It's wild how quickly the mainstream narrative swung from "climate change won't be a crisis in the US" to "Well of course you can't get homeowners insurance if you live in California or Florida. Everyone knows that!"

You could have blinked and missed it.

trains are such a great example of how the future is here, if we want it and are willing to subsidize it
It’s over 1,000km from Berlin to Paris

There’s now a direct daytime train between them, that takes 8 hours and costs just €59. Leave at 10am, arrive 6pm.

And… it’s just 1% the carbon emissions of the equivalent flight
