It's the time of year when I see articles telling folks to put pet fur out for bird nesting. The Cornell ornithology lab does not recommend this! Flea/tick treatments & shampoos can be toxic, long fur can entangle chicks, etc. There are much better alternatives: www.allaboutbirds.org/news/providi...
Providing Nest Material for Birds: Dos & Don'ts
Rufous Hummingbird by Penny Hall/Birdshare. Most birds build some kind of structure to contain their eggs and nestlings. A bird's nest may be as simple as a nighthawk's or Killdeer's depression on ...

Took a family trip to Boyce Thompson Arboretum with the family to enjoy the day and do some birding. Of course I had to take a million cardinal photos. #birds #northerncardinal

This curve billed thrasher was collecting nesting material in my neighborhood.

Finally got eyes on the Bald Eagle frequenting the Gilbert Water Ranch riparian preserve. Very exciting, especially since I got my second sighting of an osprey the same day.

My current library read. I truly didn’t expect ‘The Dictionary People’ to be as interesting and dare I say it ‘saucy’ as it has been. A very well researched and fascinating history of the OED.

Don't forget to support your local library!

Now might be a great time to curl up with a book and decompress a bit.

Here is a Ruby Crowned Kinglet to brighten your day. I chased this little one for darn near half an hour. No regrets. #bird #birdsofbluesky

Finally starting my latest library find The Tree Collectors by Amy Stewart. I’m actually really excited for the premise since I find horticultural collectors fascinating 🪴. #amreading

Since this has been a sick house I have spent all my free time sleeping which means no #birding. Man I’m ready to back out there. I miss my feathered friends. Here is a picture of a little #saysphoebe that has been hanging around the green belt across from my house. #bird

A few days after David Lynch died, his family invited people to join in on a 10 minute group meditation in his honor. I did it and, after not meditating for years, I've been doing it ever since and it's really helped me deal with the current shitshow. Think about giving it a try.

Man parenting a sick toddler while trying to ward off the plague yourself is not for the faint of heart. But it does really recenter your priorities in a nice way. Hopefully he kicks his cold soon and we go back to just the normal toddler drama and crying 😬.

Trump’s anti-trans Executive Order is bad BUT it technically defines everyone as female. It states:

“'Female' means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell."

Since all fetuses "at conception" are female, Trump just defined EVERYONE as female.

One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

They are.

But I really hope my son will have a healthier detachment to social. I know that ball is entirely in my court when he is young. But alas social media is global and ingrained in society so his relationship with it will ultimately be his choice. (2/2)

You know the hardest part of being an older parent with a very young child is my relationship with social media. We know how bad it is. Heck I’ve spent a couple days spiraling about TikTok but I have spent decades building communities, businesses, and relationship thru SM. (1/2)

I’m wild about Northern Mockingbird “birb” season. I get a lot of them in my neighborhood and sometimes they get so round and fluffy I almost mistake them for flycatchers.
