A single follow-up question from a journalist interviewing Made-over Marjorie Taylor Greene might expose the fact that when Marjorie Taylor Greene says "Americans," she means a very specific color of American, speaking a very specific language, practicing a very specific religion.

there's a moment in PARADISE LOST where Satan arrives in Eden and realizes Hell isn't a place; it's a thing he carries within him and it'll follow him wherever he goes. and i think about that when i see these awful rich men whose monstrous wealth has enriched them not at all

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

I often listen to old union anthems sung by Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and others, and something that always stuck me is how many of these songs have verses that declare that “race hatred” will not break their solidarity. They knew it was just another union busting tactic.
You in fact can't talk about the history of the labor movement without talking about multi-ethnic coalitions. The International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union was initially composed of Jewish and Italian immigrants, but later grew to Black, Puerto Rican, Chinese, and Filipino workers.

also? it is the end of October right now??
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

the dispicable anti-trans ad that Winsome Earl-Sears’ gubernatorial campaign is running non-stop is pure hate speech and I’m pissed off at everything in the cultural climate that makes them think that’s the messaging that is going to win the election

At the root of enduring conservative rage despite their capture of all three branches of government and most state houses is the subconscious realization that nothing will ever make them happy. They are miserable people who will be miserable no matter what happens.

Criminal immigrants, government waste, rampant crime, dangerous vaccines — if we've learned anything from the first six month of Trump 2.0 it's that Republicans have based their entire ideology on lies. Kind of wish the media made that clearer during elections!

I'm already seeing centrists and leftists sniping at each other but the blame for this is 100% on the Republicans. This is what they do with power and it is imperative that we work together to keep them as far from it as possible, forever.

An important thing to know about Donald Trump is that very few people actually like him! The structure of his support at this point is a relatively small number of psychotic groypers and a much larger swathe of the public who have been convinced by right-wing propaganda that Democrats are worse.
I don’t mean this in the conspiratorial way, I accept that it happened, but how in the blue fuck can a country that turns out millions for anti-Trump protests and barely thousands for his lame ass birthday parade be <8 months out from having re-elected him?

I read that Diabolus Ex Machina post that everyone is sharing, and while I think it’s illustrative, I dont find it shocking.

But I do think it clearly illustrates what so many fail to get about AI chatbots: it doesn’t have knowledge or expertise. All it can do is convincingly mimic speech/writing

an important thing to remember in the "is this what they voted for" discourse is that the average voter is so fucking dumb that it would bend your understanding of the human mind
