the first John Wick had a hand to hand fight everyone loved and it was entirely realistic, while many of the gunfights make it clear that this is a world of Gun Wizards doing impossible things. Filmmakers should learn when to use each method to best effect!

I think martial arts stuff is the perfect example for this because it covers both sides of things: the vast majority of the time, people in movies should fight in ways that make it entertaining... but there are absolutely cases wher a realistic fight is actually MORE interesting!

thousands of people get choked in this country every single day at MMA and wrestling and jiujitsu gyms, which no one bats an eye at, but as soon as someone wants to be choked during sex it's the worst thing in the world

afraid not. and I don't really encourage the buying of these, for all the reasons John listed in his thread. I just enjoy the way this badass tough-dude rosary becomes extremely genderqueer in my hands.

the only good bullet rosary is the genderqueer one my sister got me because she thought the contrast of BULLETS with ROSE PINK STONE felt like my flavor of genderqueer (in a silly way), and she was exactly right

I worked at a company where we tried to solve a problem for 2 years, spent lots of resources, nothing worked, we'd given up. Then a few months later I got up from my desk to go to lunch one day and suddenly realized how we could solve it. How could you measure or replicate that?

also the same people who'll tell you that most Angelenos are no hotter than the residents of other cities will turn around and tell you how weird it is that everyone here has perfect teeth. but I'm sure that only applies to expensive dental work and nothing else 🙄

yeah I've spent my life hearing people explain why LA isn't actually the city with the hottest people, and at a certain point it's like... if that was true, people wouldn't need to be trying to find arguments for it. This isn't a value judgement, it's just the reality of the industry!

I also think there's a sort of paradoxical thing where looks matter *less* to a lot of SoCal natives than you'd think, because once you've known a couple head-turningly-sexy people who are obnoxious and horrible, you realize that inner beauty really DOES matter a whole hell of a lot!

this is 100% correct. generalizing here, but when you grow up around people who are professionally hot you learn to stop comparing yourself to them. I don't compare my MMA abilities to a UFC champion and I don't compare my looks to an international sex symbol, because why tf would I?

when I go skating along the Strand I see several professionally gorgeous people every time, and about 20% of the time I see someone who's famous for how sexy they are
