Seventy-five years. The whole thing simultaneously feels like "forever" and "just yesterday." As of this morning, that's 27,375 sunrises and sets. Any words of wisdom reflecting this momentous occasion? Nah, other than "When moral courage is called for, exhibit some."

Thought that's been bouncing around my head for the past few days:

Kindness is easy to do once, yet requires a lifetime of effort.

You'll never "be" kind, but you can aim that direction.

And no quote marks, because both those, by gum, are mine.

Government estimates it will cost just under $90,000 per year to house a prisoner in Alligator Auschwitz. Perhaps supporters will respond to monetary lapses, as the GOP has completely abandoned any moral authority. I do doubt it, however.

I'm going to pop this Canyon Country Zephyr article from a coupe of years back up one last time, as a number of folks have added my page recently and may not have seen it. The piece was meant as a gift to all the good people with whom I've shared my life.

Since crappy, generic, ill-fitting tactical vests and uniforms are readily available online, what if EVERYONE at a demonstration showed up dressed like the current kidnapping units being deployed by ICE, masks and all? That could get confusing.

Best comment I've heard all week, along the lines of: "Women were defined as 'too emotional' by men who didn't define anger as an emotion."

Here's a suggestion for that gold-plated 747 (which apparently has been for sale for five years with no takers): 1. Remove all the gold crap and give it to Trump, who seems to like it--a weight savings;

Nationwide, approximately 60 percent of nursing home residents are covered by Medicaid. Could your family afford $10,000 or more A MONTH to keep Grandma comfortable? Or there's probably room for a tent in the backyard.

It's really this simple, folks.
If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general.

If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

One of the nice things about riding a horse is your mode of transportation has a sense of self-preservation. An auto-drive car doesn't care if it (or you) lives or dies, and will efficiently and precisely drive you off a cliff if given the wrong signals.

I can’t believe we have titans of industry slipping million dollar bills into Trump’s inaugural g-string like it’s some bachelor party for the end of democracy.

Here's an idea for a future Christmas gift: Thirty-eight years ago my college roommate, friend now of over 60 years, gave Kris and me a coffee grinder for our wedding. Since 1986, each morning when I use it I think of Ned and Teresa--can't avoid it. That's a great gift.

As a continued introduction to Bluesky, I'm going to jump to the end of my Canyon Country Zephyr columns. "My Pelvis and its Place in the Universe," explores how an incident lasting a few seconds can have a lifelong impact.

As a Bluesky introduction, here's a link to the first in a series of columns of the memories a small-town newspaper reporter in Moab, Utah in the late 70s and early 80s. Given the avalanche of current events, some comic relief might be welcome.
