The best lawyer in our country right now is Marc Elias. And we need him now more than ever. He seems to be the only lawyer that really gives a shit about democracy.

Jimmy Carter’s casket arrived earlier at the Capitol rotunda, where he will lie in state until Thursday. What a beautiful photo. Rest in peace, President Carter.

Happy Winter Solstice to all in the northern hemisphere.

The turn of the year's tide, a pivot-point, a day of hope—when the dark stops rising & after which the Sun begins its slow climb back.
A day I celebrate more than Christmas or New Year.

Fiat lux!

The thing about all of these many hits on Kash Patel and Pete Hegseth about them being unqualified, malignant, possibly criminal, and unfit is that they are also forgetting that they are both really awful people too. I mean...these are truly terrible men.

I think DeSantis would probably be okay as SecDef. He’s a jerk, but he’s not crazy. He’s a conventional guy; his problem as a GOP presidential candidate was that he couldn’t convincingly play a nut job on TV.

But it’s sad that the best we can hope for these days is “not crazy.”

Pete Hegseth, nominee for Sec Def:

- zero experience
- his own mother will not endorse him
- not a single reputable member of the military has come forward to support his nomination
- has a history of sexual assault, financial mismanagement and being drunk on the job

You're all caught up.

THIS NEW YORKER PIECE IS STUNNING!

Pete Hegseth has no business being in charge of defense when the military is dealing with an ongoing issue of sexual assault against women. This is some next level shit.

So let me get this straight.

If you apply for a job at a grocery store, you have to undergo a background check.

But, if you apply to be Director of National Intelligence, you don't?

Got it.
