(3/4) An outdoor classroom was created at Walter Maginnis, featuring pollinator and native plants, sensory and Zen gardens, a solar-powered water feature, and compost bins to regenerate depleted soils.

(2/4) The Eco-Schools program encourages students and educators to engage in environmental education, sustainability, and leadership. Green Flag certification represents the program’s highest level of achievement, awarded to schools that show long-term commitment to environmental stewardship.

(3/3) Lino Lakes Education Director Randall Bergman and Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Language Instructor Daphne Shabaiash presented certificates to three participants for completing the first Basic Ojibwe Language class. In total, seven people have completed the program.

(2/3) “Metamorphosis” was the theme of the event. DOC Director of Secondary Education Shauna Bock noted that educational experiences – like how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly – are transformational. Bock congratulated graduates for their perseverance and hard work.

(2/2) Some students expressed pride in both their literary accomplishments and with their own courage to be able to read in front of an audience. Students remarked that they never considered themselves writers before, and for most students, it was their first time engaging in creative writing.
