Why doesn't anyone note that in addition to plastering his name on the Kennedy Center, Trump has also painted all the iconic stately bronze columns a garish bright white that doesn't go with the white marble walls?

I thought someone had to be dead for a while before a building could be named for them, but DJT is dead inside so maybe that counts.

My daughter, Emily Kobayashi, is quoted in this article, as the head of Gavi's HPV vaccination initiative. I'm proud of her, and of my son-in-law Dan (the Expatriarch substack) who made her career accomplishments possible.

What i was saying
Walmart, McDonalds and Amazon are the largest employers of people who require SNAP assistance.

The CEOs earned between 18-40 million last year, 1000x their median employee income.

They took billions in profits, while their workers relied on SNAP to survive.

Wanna fix fraud and abuse?

Fix that.

The income of the very rich goes mostly free of income taxes because it is derived from the kinds of wealth not taxed like earned payroll income is.
November 1, 2025 at 11:21 PM
I am stunned tp learn that 1 in 8 Americans use SNAP benefits to have enough to eat. There is something fundamentally wrong in our economy where obscene wealth is concentrated in a few people and many jobs don't pay enough to provide the basic essentials of food and shelter.

There's a female umpire calling balls and strikes at the MLB game I'm watching. They've admitted women to their ranks just when they're on track to be replaced by robots.

While it's great that Many States are stepping up to fill in gaps in safety net and civil rights protections created by Federal withdrawal, do we really want to live in a country where our most basic rights and protections depend completely on where we live?

So what was Big Balls doing on 14th st at 3 AM when he was subject of an attempted carjacking by two 15 year old from Maryland, which DC Police quickly intervened to stop? And this is why Trump imposed martial law on DC? At risk of appeaing foil hatted, sounds like a set up to me.

Instead of sending in armed Federal forces to eradicate homeless individuals from DC, how about increasing access to health care, including mental health, feeding the hungry, and providing new supportive housing with the sane $$$$.

I began my 37 year Federal career in 1976 as a field data collector for BLS. I have no doubt that BLS continues to exercise the same rigorous technical approach to statistical sampling and data collection that I glimpsed in my one year there.

I remember Kent State, May 4, 1970, when the National Guard shot 4 innocent student protesters. Do we really want to go there again?
The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers.

That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.

Starting to see the screenshots of tariff increases on social stories and posts followed by 🤔. The beginning of the beginning is here.

Even the smallest performing arts organizations are facing financial crises after pulling themselves back together after the pandemic. Contribute generously to your favorite local choruses, theater companies, orchestras, etc. Music and the other arts are essential to our humanity.
While Trump fundraises on Les Misérables for $2M a ticket at the Kennedy Center, arts grants are being canceled across America. This isn’t just defunding culture, it’s cutting off the lifelines of community, creativity & belonging. Support your local arts. They need us now more than ever.
Art for the People, Grift for the Powerful
While Trump fundraises on Les Misérables, he’s dismantling the NEA.

After my birthday dinner marking the end of a decade, a dramatic rainbow appeared, and this morning a robin built a nest just outside my second story bathroom window where I'll be able to watch her every morning while I brush my teeth. So despite my fears, the year leading to 80 holds promises.
