Map of the TRIBAL NATIONS OF MINNESOTA HAPPY NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY The Senate DFL is privileged to have Senator Mary Kunesh, a Standing Rock Lakota descendant, serve as a leader in our caucus. She is the first Native American woman elected to the Minnesota Senate and is a steadfast advocate for Indigenous communities, tribal-state relations, and all of Minnesota's students as chair of the Education Finance Committee. NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY EDUCATION Every student should have the freedom to observe their heritage when they come to school to learn. In 2023, the DFL protected Indigenous students' rights to do just that. NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY LANGUAGE REVITALIZATION Language, heritage, connection. This year, the DFL passed $30 million to help Indigenous students learn Dakota, Anishinaabe, or another language of Turtle Island.
