Today EUs Capacity Buidling in Higher Education programme opened for calls, an underrated, well funded and highly influential geostrategic soft action, competing with US and one or two others on who shapes global HE standards.

UK is only HE exporter worldwide ineligible to participate.

Well done.

Nothing will ever surprise me about the governance of academic institutions in Germany but this is about as bad as it gets 👇

Wow I just became aware of the new Clarivate Web of Science 'reviewer community' engagement tool. Starts with a bunch of warm glows to get my endorphins going, 'build a thriving community', 'recognize their service', ... but then:

"discover when they are engaging with competitor journals"

Love this. A refutable hypothesis that is incredibly difficult to refute.

Take Adam Smith: never married, no relationship we know of. Ever. Except that he lived with his mother in Kirkaldy for years while he wrote the Wealth of Nations. Guess who looked after everything?
The much anticipated new biography of Milton Friedman by Jennifer Burns is out; her recent op-ed highlights “a long history of women who have worked, often quietly and without proper recognition, to shape the field” of economics. #econsky #historians #skystorians

A non-econ student (anthropology actually) asked me today to 'briefly' (!) explain the difference between micro- and macroeconomics. Not easy. 'All was well until Maynard invented macro as a general theory of aggregates in 1936 to put an end to wars' maybe?

I stuck to Dali:

Simply the best research methods book I have come across, for a very long time. We are never good at prediction in the social sciences but I'd be surprised if this will not be the new classic for prereg methodology. Free online below but I just ordered two anyway. #christmasgift #warmglow
Sometimes it's hard for me to quite spit out what this book is about -- thank you to @rickharrison.bsky.social for giving me the space to get there in this interview about RDSS.

BTW, you can read for the whole thing for free at book.declaredesign.org
