Very useful, thanks. Sound funding strategy. Scaling will be a challenge but to be relevant you must. Will follow your ads experiments with interest.

[Have just submitted feedback, search "Antaco Seedrs" yields obscure and unusable results. Rare this happens, all other alts incl Brave cope well]

If German satire is alive then this will become a movie à la Four Lions before long.
The Best Film About Islamic Terrorists Is a Comedy
Chris Morris' Four Lions, released four years ago, skewers the pointlessness and confusion of wannabe jihadists.

Unless the reviewer is a well worn stooge projecting the editor's bias, seen this occasionally, certainly more often than can be good for science.

Very clever way of pointing to Brave search ;-)
But you are right, was disappointed to find very little on how they source.

Where can I read up on your business model?

Sb needs to do this for the dismal science somehow

Kann man natuerlich ueber viele CEOs sagen. Die ganze IT Branche hat massive Diversitaetsprobleme, nur VWL und Physik legen da noch was drauf.
Brave crypto sieht so aus wie ne Art Coupon den keiner haben will :) Also gut, ich schau mir nochmal den Feuerfuchs an, trotz schwachem Anti-fingerprinting.

Interessiert mich: welche anderen Gründe bez. Brave? Das idealistische ads business model hat doch was, und der Suchindex ist auch ok. Chromium.. klar. Aber darüber hinaus, gibt es da wirklich bedenkliche Abgründe die sich auftun, wenn man genauer schaut?

Pseudoscholarly trolling also has a long tradition in Cambridge ecs :) and the footnotes of the early years of Economica (while it was still the de facto LSE working paper series) are a treasure trove of subtweets at faculty.

Damn, missed this..

Shareholders should raise an eyebrow, those chaps may be founders and hold a few shares but that's the kind of thing that gives the Valley and markets and economics a bad name.

More context in my LI post, with links to the CBHE calls.

Anybody working on CBHE bids from Eastern EU into Central Asia and interested in kicking some ideas around give me a shout.

No doubt one of the die-hard Keynes sceptics at the University of Buckingham, down the road 🤣

Quite a number of prominent cases where it never does, starkest case I can think of is a top scholar too modest to push for promotion being hired from UK (non Oxbridge) lectureship to senior Ivy league chair. Not in that case but gender comes into it too, in ecs eg Helen Makower, many others.

My uni (past, thankgod):

1. Sorry we only have budget for one so each of you five get 20% max reimbursed

2. Me: wot you expect us to subsidise travel on legitimate business out of salary??

3. The other four: it's fine we can take our tents and share a car and have a good time

A bit like the Tories here, much of the reasonable centre right resigned or kicked out, quite a few of those to the right of Sunak nurture ties to AfD, Bannon etc

Just a matter of time before the CDU begins to wobble?

Hm 'hervorgegangen' not sure. But it's tearing the Hayek Gesellschaft apart for sure.

Has anybody yet written about the curious link between the German economics profession and all these 'alternatives', quite a few protagonists are ecs profs?

Have a look through my economics list, many on here with thoae interests but I guess we don't flag ourselves very well

The inevitable outcome: IZA will have to look around for new leadership, hopefully somebody capable of restoring trust. Immense damage to its international reputation that was entirely avoidable if those in charge, in their lack of wisdom, had not tried to force the issue..
Institut zur Zukunft der Arbeit: Armin Falk zieht sich zurück
700 Forscher wollten Armin Falkan der Spitze des IZA verhindern - und haben nun Erfolg. Doch die Frage ist: Wie soll es nun weitergehen?

It is disheartening to see change happening so slowly, if at all.

I remember an ecs dept 30y ago, had just appointed their first female lecturer (ever?), left academia in disgust after a year due to the misogynistic undercurrent of the twice-daily coffee gatherings everybody was expected to attend.

Always a bit worrying if political movements have to hark back one or two centuries in search of intellectual legitimacy, in particular when it comes to their economics.
November 28, 2023 at 2:18 PM
Update: manuscript I was looking at is a crass act of plagiarism, documenting this as a referee has additional legal implications, further underscore the relevance of the trust chain I mentioned.

Not even sure publisher has right to share such allegations with other journals w/o investigating.
