I feel very lucky that I got to talk about my Homeland-Security-mass-detention-Asian-American book on The Daily Show

It seems that Kaleb Horton has passed away. A devastating loss. One of the best writers of this generation. Kaleb was a friend for ten years and in all our conversations I was trying to convince him how good he was, something he seemed to know but also never fully believe. I am going to go cry now.

This song still sounds like the future, one we could've easily had but was taken away from us without our permission. Piped in from a different, better dimension. An existential plane we were on and from which, all the sudden, without warning, we were removed.

I think there are many problems in media that can be traced back to a death or drought of sincerity in mass media, a fear of discussing love or solidarity, or unabashedly loving your friends. It’s “vulnerable” if you talk about feeling bad or sad. Doesn’t feel vulnerable to me, I feel stronger now

Y'all, we need to come up with something better than "how are you?" for the foreseeable future. Because I know that's just standard chit chat, but also, it's really hard for me to say anything other than "aside from the all consuming existential dread, fine I guess" and no one wants to hear that.

cold world chronicles: had the 9:45-10 am shift of parents reading to our daughter’s 3rd grade class. i read them “pickles to pittsburgh.” at pickup i ask her, “how’d i do?” “good, good, you were…fine.” ?? i note that they loved the book & had tons of questions. “yeeah. they were just humoring you.”

def aware that no one has ever wanted to see someone else’s fireworks videos/pics, so apologies … but it’s pretty cool for our kiddo to be able to watch them over the bay from our front window. she is sooo happy right now.
