What’s Fivetran’s story, anyway? This is a wild work history, lol

I’m happy about the dbt/Fivetran merger.

Ultimately, it’s better for the data community to have one big ETL company headed (hopefully) towards an IPO rather than two smaller ones stumbling along, hoping Databricks or Snowflake finally decide to acquire them.

the problem with being a data vendor is you only get to play with the shiny toys you’re building, not everyone else’s. super pumped to be back to being a practitioner soon 😀

Cube did a reorganization, which sadly eliminated my role from the company as a solutions engineer in pre-sales.

I am open to work in solutions engineering, devrel, product marketing, and possibly other roles.

DM if you have interest or roles that you could refer me to.

lots of people on LinkedIn etc ragging on dbt Fusion

but from what i can tell, it’s mostly vendors worried that dbt just killed their strategy of reselling dbt core

careful who you listen to out there, folks

me heading to r/dataengineering to comment “why not just do this in dbt?” on every post about some insanely over-engineered data pipeline

eli5: why do we need a separate protocol for agents to call other agents?

couldn’t we just use MCP?

if i were angel investing right now, my strategy would be to invest in anyone who’s totally ignoring AI

there’s alpha in just building good old-fashioned products that solve users’ problems!

good post that answered some of my questions about Iceberg and confirmed that other ones aren’t crazy! (e.g. won’t you have huge egress costs unless you’re *really* careful?)

worth a read
new rule: talk about Iceberg without mentioning Hive or ACID properties.

the vast majority of SQL users don't care (and shouldn't)! it's like explaining Dropbox starting w/ bringing up libfuse

If you're new to iceberg lmk if you get something from this!

i’ve noticed there’s a gap between how excited SWEs and data people are about AI.

not sure what explains it. poor experiences with text-to-sql tools? concerns about being replaced?
